8u travel ball, I'm the PU.  We started the game 30 minutes early.  2 outs, runner on 2nd.  HT is at bat when I hear the HT head coach say to his batter that he is not due up to bat and he starts asking where the kid due up is at.  HC learns that the kid has the hershey squirts.  What do you do?  Get the third out or wait a couple minutes to see if the kid is OK and can continue to play?

Edited to add that HT only has 9 players.

Treat it as you would any "injury" -- give a few minutes for the player to recover, or get a sub, or follow whatever league rules you have when a spot in the order is vacated.

Well, we did pause the game and waited and VT HC was very understanding.  At what level do you take the out given the same scenario?

There is no out unless there is no sub to insert in his place. You just put in a sub for the missing player.

When the coach gets paid by a school or professional team and the wins and losses count towards a real championship (Varsity and above).

How would you get an out?

Is there a rule set in which your criteria are met in which the missing batter is an out rather than the game ending for lack of 9 players?

HS.

Some youth league local rules.

Meh.

No legal sub in USSSA is an out, since it would be continuous there are no subs.

However you have free substitution, so this is not an issue on defense.

Under this rule set you would get an out every 10th man if you only had 9. (Coach pitch only, otherwise 9 man minimum line-up if kid pitch without penalty).

BUT how I would handle this is as an BOO of order, and only continue the game if the other coach will not appeal it. Kid comes back before next at bat, all is well.

I live out side Hershey, I never knew people used Hershey squirts as a term for the runs

Are there any highways named for the town out there? Cause you probably don't want to know what that term refers to either. :)

Sometimes its best to not ask questions you really don't want the answer too...
