Saw this in an article on the Mariners' site:
 

"I took exception with – obviously we didn't think he swung, but for the umpire to tell me, 'Don't come out here.' That part I don’t get," McClendon said.

Apparently McClendon doesn't get that an umpire is expected to warn a player or coach leaving their position to argue balls and strikes, per both the comment in rule 9.02a and more specifically to this situation in the comments for rule 9.02c regarding a check swing call by a first or third base umpire.

 

Seems pretty textbook to me.

The skipper: you don't know that arguing a check swing is arguing balls and strikes? Lah me. Hat toss might be $$$.

 

My take: It seems MLB is doing the "Jerry Lane" with ejected personnel this season: stop and stare till they leave. Works at that level, and I like it better than the shouting matches (see Bob Davidson and Charlie Manuel).

What makes me most happy about this EJ is that we might, FINALLY, have a legit challenge for QOC. All the plays that would normally turn up interesting appeals and such have been corrected by replay.
