I read this in amazement. What would happen if the baseball parents just told them to pound salt?

The United States Education Commission ..... Plymouth High School would  be in trouble .....

If having ONE seating area not handicap accessible is a violation, then every MLB stadium should be torn down since every seat is not handicap accessible.

The Title IX stuff is so ludicrous, it's just sad.  Hope the person that complained can sleep better now.

My wife is the Baseball Booster president for my son's HS team and we are running in to this now.   We are aggressively fundraising to make improvements and are being instructed to ensure parity with Girls Softball every step of the way.

Usually not a problem, but the Girls have no booster club and the girls parents  refuse to participate in the baseball fundraising.    It's pretty brutal.

Everything already costs twice as much because it is being built on school grounds, and now we have to buy two of everything on top of that.

Been there and done that. To the tune of another $45,000. Dugouts, scoreboards and batting cages.

I'm reminded of the term "fair isn't always equal". I believe it applies here.

I love how people think it's okay for females to have less simply because they have vaginas.

Revenue is a cycle. You get revenue, you get nicer things, you get more interest, you get more revenue. If we didn't have laws like this, there would be no interest in most female sports because all the revenue would be concentrated in the sports that already have interest.

What does any of this have to do with fundraising? Softball parents have an equal opportunity to put in the work to raise money for their field. They didn't and should put up or shut up.

Did you miss the part where the softball parents aren't helping or did you miss it because your vaginitis flared up?

So tearing down the seats will create more interest in softball at that district?  Because it's a law?  Wow, guess they're "entitled" to revenue they don't help raise or earn.

Maybe you should blame those who chose not to be in compliance in the first place.

Maybe you should also learn about the issues in trying to raise revenue for female sports.

Where do you think the revenue comes from?

I also would challenge you to try to fundraise for a girls' sport and see how much success you have.

Nothing like defending your sexism with a sexist remark.

I love how instead of working to raise money for your own cause, they sit on their a$$es and complain.

How hard is it to say "raise your own money?"  It's so easy to sit there and complain though.

If everybody helped fund raise (softball included) maybe they could get bleachers too.

It goes both ways. Had this been the softball team who fundraised all the money for new bleachers, all of us would tell the boys parents to get up and go fundraise. We wouldn't suggest that the softball teams take down their bleachers.

Do you honestly think there would be no interest in women's sports without the laws, Matt? We have come a long ways as a society (and still have a ways to go in many aspects) but to suggest that people only support women's athletics because of the laws I think belittles women's athletics and devalues the time and effort they do put into the sports.

As soon as boys' baseball is treated as a second-class sport to girls' softball, this analogy will be relevant.

That's not what I said. I know that sports for females would be even worse off, revenue-wise, without them.

We are essentially arguing about whether it is fair that the baseball team has been ordered to take down their bleachers. The baseball team decided to go out and fundraise this money, the softball team didn't. Their initiative has essentially been deemed unfair by the powers that be and in order to make it fair, something either needs to be taken away from the boys or given to the girls. In an attempt to be fair, I think we have created a situation that is unfair and I think it sends the wrong message to the young people in this particular situation.

They weren't.

Now, the school must tear it all down. The U.S. Education Department's Office for Civil Rights opened an investigation following an anonymous complaint. Ultimately, officials demanded that the seating and scoreboard be torn down because the upgrades are superior to Plymouth's girls' softball facilities (pictured). The boys' seating is also not handicap accessible, which is a separate violation of government regulations.

I read this paragraph and got a pretty strong impression that the officials demanded that the seating and scoreboard be town down.

Now the school looks like it is going to try and come up with another solution but that the original demand was to tear it down.
