What's the Call?

I found this video and was wondering what you guys thought of how the play was ruled. It was ruled a hit.  I agree with how the fight was handled (UF Zack Powers & Danny Young; FSU's DJ Stewart were ejected) , but it looks like Stewart was running outside, so shouldn't he be out?

SAME play. AT full speed also. And at full speed I'm even more convinced it's INT and MC. BR is out, and gone.

Yea, same play as the other thread.  Sure looks different at full speed.  I still don't see MC, but after watching full speed, I'm even more convinced I would have called OBS.  I'm not saying that's the right call, but that's what I would have called.  I agree @Richvee is spot on with the rule pitcher is definitely (within a step), but at full speed it really looked as though F1 was attempting a tag, and contact was made with F3 as well, (who I suppose is within reach also).  Interesting video, and good discussion so far.

PU was coming up the line signaling "that's nothing" immediately.  I can't see how this play is nothing - has to be OBS or INT, and I think INT is the correct call.  I thought contact above the waist was almost automatic MC in NCAA, but not sure.

Is the pitcher not protected during the immediate play? I know he is in OBR.

 

I would say that's irrelevant if INT on initial contact with F2, and academic if the initial contact is OBS.

 

Are you saying you would have had him as a protected fielder? If so, why?

The BR was ejected but I think was due to the resulting fight, not MC.

I'm saying at full speed, it looks as though he is attempting a tag, not attempting to field a batted ball.  I also said, I feel as though it would have been incorrect after seeing it replayed over and over in slow motion (that comment was in the other thread).  That I did comment on.

If the PU is looking up the line, as he should be, he *should* have noticed the BR veer inside the running lane and initiate the contact.   The ball was out in front of the BR where he could see the impending train-wreck and I think he could and SHOULD have veered out into the running lane to avoid contact, but didn't.    And yes F1 misplayed the ball, but as others have stated, the NCAA rule is a step and a reach, I think was the case here.    INT

Honestly, I could see either OBS or INT being called and having reasonable arguments for it, but I don't see MC.

I agree. To me, it appears that the BR clearly changes his path to initiate contact. He also raises his arms to brace himself for the collision and even looks like he may add a shove.
