Hello all, I haven't been as active since I made my move to MD, especially in the fall, but I am now back.

Just learned that my day job will preclude me from calling high school ball this year, so I am a bit bummed about that.  Hoping to pick some more up as the winter/spring moves along.

Here in Florida we lose our rank if we miss a season.

We have Ranks 1, 2 and 3 depending on years of service, test score, participation, etc.

Miss a season, start over!

Would of been starting over anyway, new state=start over.

In Florida you are allowed to transfer in from another state and be able to start with a higher rank.

But then again most associations are going to start you of on the bottom anyway.

I can somewhat understand an association not bringing a new umpire into the same level they were at elsewhere, but this makes no sense at all. Just because someone can't officiate a game doesn't mean they lose everything they've learned.

There are exceptions. Like medical reasons and I don't know what else.

It's a FHSAA thing. Don't know how other states work it.

Hi Cyclone!

Glad to hear from you!  But that's a bummer about not being able to work HS this season.  I hope you do pick up some other games, as the season progresses, as you say.

Good luck!
