Guys,

I think I am going to transition back to a regular mask from my Shock Fx.  The reviews on the Team Wendy pads have really swayed me.

My question is about non-titanium Wilson masks on UA or any other site for that matter.  I see that MLB guys wear the WTA3007, but that isn't listed online at UA.  Is the difference between model numbers for Wilson masks strictly padding or is there a difference in the level of protection the frame provides?

Like I said, I'm going to purchase the Team Wendy pads with my order from UA so I don't want to spend more money just because of better pads.  I just assume buy the $48 set-up, but if there is stronger protection with one of the other models I'll go with that.

Thanks.

As far as I know, ...the numbers relate to the different padding options on the frame .... it's the same frame, but I'm sure a Wilson expert could chime in here....

If you know you are going to load it with Team Wendy's why not buy just a fame and then add the pads. You might save a few dollars. I know Honig's offers there house brand frame that way.

I believe UA offers a diamond frame with out pads as well.

I didn't think of this and I read it too late.  I ordered the A3017, Black Team Wendy pads, a couple combo hats (black/navy), throat protector and a patent leather belt from UA for just under $130.

A little worried about the hats.  I have NEVER taken off a mask with a hat on (when I was in my first year I wore a mask without a hat...Smitty).  I have a game Friday night, so I guess I'll spend most of my Friday making sure the hat doesn't come off with the mask.   :smachhead:

SOOO EASY, you won't have any problem with it.

Your harness being TOO TIGHT would be the issue ....you want your mask to fit, but you want it a touch loose so it will spin if you get hit ..... when you have your mask on, ...and you look down, ....your mask should come off your chin a bit .....

You'll be fine! :D

to expind on what jeff says....spinning will defuse the energy from the ball...the tighter the mask the less it will do as it will transfer more of the energy to your head

Used it for the first time last evening.  As I said, I haven't used a mask for over six years, so it may take a little bit of time, but I was not really liking it yesterday.  Much more restricted view than I have with my Shock FX.

I felt way more exposed and I now have to change how my neck is positioned and my neck did not approve of it yesterday.

Any tips or exercises I can do with my neck to strengthen the muscles so that I don't have this problem?  The game only lasted an hour and ten minutes, but I did feel pretty stiff yesterday.  Honestly don't know how effective I would've been had it been a normal 1:30-2:00 game.  Almost ran to the car in between innings to put my helmet back on.  Haha.

Keep umpiring...that will get your neck stronger.

I wear a standard mask from time to time. Mainly wear my MVP4000Ti. The vision is so much better in the HSM. That is the main reason I am primarily an HSM guy.
