Varsity game last night behind the plat tight fast ball fouled off the handle straight to chin area of my mask.  Thanks to Team Wendy I only have a mild concussion.  I am sure it would have been much worse without considering how hard a hit it was.  Just beware of things guys this was in top of fourth and I was fine or thought I was until the bottom of the 5th when all of the sudden a major headache came on.  Trainer looked at me and actually pulled me out of the game.  I am glad she did it could have been worse if I were hit again that game.

Sorry to hear about your injury. Quick question.... What type of mask do you wear and how loose or tight do you wear it? When you got hit, did your mask spin off and fall to the ground, or was it still on your face?

No matter how good a mask you wear at some point it may catch you just right and injure you.

In the same boat. Fastball in a varsity game gets fouled straight back and take it full on, smack in the middle of my silver Diamond. Thanks to my TW pads, I too only suffered a very minor concussion. Happened in the bottom of the eighth and didn't realize something was wrong until a light headache (in my case) came on in the top of the 9th. Stuck it out, dumb I know, and game ended shortly there after in the bottom of the 9th.

Been resting as much as a working stiff can and will have first plate Tuesday. One week after the incident and feeling fine.

this is it.....its a real day to day issue we face.....we always talk about getting the best gear, all because we are just one pitch away from injury........

best wishes for OHUMP fast recovery.......

I was in a similar position last year.  Rest and take it easy.  There can be a cumlative affect when dealing with concussions.  The Wendy's pads are great! And kept me feeling safer.  Get well soon!

This seems to be a flaw in mask designs. Manufacturers make the throat extensions so that they extend forward. This makes a valley where the mask ends and the throat extension begins. Get hit there by a foul ball in that area the force goes right into your jaw because there’s no place for the ball to deflect.  The Wilson titanium and umpire masks are about the worst I’ve seen when it comes to this.

Get well soon.
