NFHS this year is changing their uniform colors and allowing dark or charcoal gray pants to go along with the heather gray stating lack of suppliers for heather gray. I emailed NYSBUA and they told me that heather gray only will be allowed in NY state despite the NFHS rule. Just a heads up if you live in NY, don't buy those pants yet because they're not allowed. Also which I can't believe, Smitty's is one of New York's approved vendors for uniforms.

I did a search for this here and came up empty while the search feature on "that other" board was not even working at all when I tried..

But, did I read somewhere that the charcoal pants will be the REQUIRED color beginning in the '10 season??

Thanks in advance

I don't know when they will be moving to required, but we were told in the state clinic that playoff umpires will be wearing charcoal. It will be interesting to see.

The rule says:

ART 9...Umpires shall wear grey slacks, and navy pullover shirt or state association shirt.

Last year it said:

ART 9...Umpires shall wear heather grey slacks, and navy pullover shirt or state association shirt.

Last year's change added the state association shirt part. This year removed the word "heather".

If your state association wants you wearing charcoal, they are now in compliance.:banghead:

funny this year, our directive for playoff was that we were to wear only the heather grey...many of us have the charcoal, but they didnt want any mismatched crews so they decided to legislate the pant color.

Most of the guys on my board switched to charcoal, I think the whole state organization will be switching to black shirts in a couple years as well.

Pretty much happened already here in Long Beach. Most everyone this year is wearing charcoal and either black or MLB blue. Some still wear Navy but I think that will change with in the next year or two.
