Worked the dish on a LL majors game tonight. Game was plugging along back and forth with little to note. The visitors fell behind and went into the 5th down 2. With two outs and an R1, R3, they had R1 steal and R3 delay steal when the F2 threw the ball back to the F1. The runner slid into the tag and through the catcher's legs. Easy, obvious out. I bang it for the third out much to the vocal displeasure of the visitors. I go to clean the plate and one of the assistants yells sarcastically from the dugout, "Yeah you clean that plate!" I stand up and tell him, that's enough from you. He retorts back immediately "Yeah, this is terrible!" Say good night, Gracie. He starts to leave whining "Good I'm glad I got ejected from this game. You're horrible!" Followed by the cries from somewhere about sending an email, yadda yadda. This was my first ejection after coming back last year from a nine year layoff. It was just like riding a bike.

Does LL auto-suspend managers/coaches on ejs?

Not sure if it's a LL rule or a local rule here in my league, but if a Manager/Coach gets ejected then they are no longer eligible to coach an All-Star team!

I hold that overĀ the coachesĀ heads all season.... Those coachesĀ sometimes areĀ my biggest issues.

LL is rest of that game and next game.Ā  4.07.

Our league has local rule on top of that. If tossed twice in a year, you are gone from the league for the year.

Seriously?Ā  That's wxactly what happened to me my first LL game this year...

No waiy.Ā  That was just a bad dream.

See how he immediately threatened you with that email. It use to be a phone call in the old days (here, you need a dime, quarter, etc. if you want to be smart a$$ with them). That's why umpires should never entertain a post game with any managers, coaches, etc. They get in free cheapshots, lectures, etc. and they know perfectly well they are going to follow up with a complaint on you. Why give them the time of day and freebie on you. Just let them go right to the assignor, etc with their complaint. Don't give them a 2 for 1 free shot. This is just for the guys who feel they have to listen to these guys after a game where they try and wait for you.

ASSistant coaches get ZERO latitude. Travel association has asked us to try to restrict 1st. If he's already IN the dugout, what good is a restriction? He obviously thinks he's 'entitled' to something.

As to the OP, I personally wouldn't have warned him verbally. "Yeah you clean that plate" would get a VERY hard look with no verbal. If he perists..... He gone without me having said a word. It was probably his kid you called out.

I have one HC that is really good guy, knowledgable, rules savvy (somewhat), calm, does it right. He has an ass coach that is a pure rat. Last time I called their game, the rat was chirping about every call, every pitch. I ignored it for bout 10 seconds. Looked at the HC and said, "Really Mike?" (giving the head motion in ass's direction). Mike shut him down then and there. Gotta love it.

I thought about burning the dugout and have reflected on that since the game. Based upon how loud and obnoxious he was, I still like how I handled it in this game for this level. It's definitely a useful tool and I've used it before with good effect.
