Question for our NC HS umpire friends

I was curious if the NCHSAA still had their ridiculous rule that umpires must be cleanly shaven?

Swanson told us here in charlotte we could not have a beard. a fu-man-chu. is okay during regular season, but in playoffs, nothing going past the corners of your mouth. i think that was past down from Chapel Hill........

While it's not the main decision factor (time & distance were) in my deciding not to work HS in NC anymore, it was a factor. The local booking agent said it wouldn't matter until post season either last year. 

 

But I wasn't going to work my butt off to make the post season to not to work it. 

 

And I'm obstinate enough that I wouldn't shave specifically because somebody told me to on a whim.

I have a full beard that I keep trimmed very close. I will not shave to appease the powers-that-be. If that means I don't get PS games, then so be it. I umpire HS for 3 months each season. They'll not dictate my life to possibly get 2 or 3 "Big" games. When its all said and done, it's just another game. My facial hair has no bearing on my person or abilities/skills/knowledge. That's just the control freak higher-ups trying to rule the world. :no:

I agree 100%. If you are calling MiLB or MLB. That's your job and they can tell you what to do, but not when we are independent contractors and we are out here because we love it.

 

I wear a beard, it doesn't look like a bird's nest. If you don't like it, don't assign me. Luckily in TX they don't care about facial hair, they care more about how fat you are
