Mine just arrived in the mail. All I got to see was the covers until my wife snatched them away since they are a Christmas present.

Would be interested to see how the mechanics book compares to "Maximizing"

Exactly. That's what I want to see. Understand, I'm not asking for the manual. Just a couple cookies to give me an idea on why I'd spend money on yet another mechanics manual.

Is there anything you can post? I just am hesitant to pull the trigger w/o at least some type of cookie.

What harm is a page or two of an entire manual. I think they could sell more w/ a little snippet of what we get for the money.

Johnny, I am very loyal to Hunter and do not want to burn a bridge I cant cross... I will email and ask him, I do understand your point.

I respect that, but I hope they understand that I'm not going to blindly drop money on something that has no reputation. I buy the new BRD every year, sight unseen, but Carl has earned that reputation for this publication.

A while back, I asked for a screen shot/snippet of their rule interpretation manual and I did get one. I don't see why they wouldn't do that here.

Thanks,

John

Personally, any publication in a niche market should offer several pages of examples -- enough for the consumer to see what they're buying. Amazon has learned this and offers it for most of their books, and that's for a whole population.

In short, no publisher for a small base of consumers should be scared to offer the preview.

I think the school has a long enough rep that you would trust it would have good info in it.

True. But I think previews would help. I just bought the JE Maximizing only because it was on sale. Had I known how good it was I would have bought it a long time ago at regular price.

Agreed, but my original question was that I wanted to see how it is different from Maximizing and the CCA manual.

If I'm going to spend money on a mechanics manual, I need some new value to add to the purchase.

Here are two pages, One of the read step and one of plays at the plate.there are alot of pictures in the manual.. i do own the Jim Evans maximizing and I like some things about that one and a bunch about this book.. Look Im not trying to sell you this book, and Hunter is not trying to make money, he just wants to put out a great product and I believe he has. Harry Wendelstedt Umpire School has never been about making money. i know a bunch of you already own the Maximizing manual, and that's great.. heck i have some many umpires books, I could start my own library.

I haven't even considered buying these books and i've been to school once and going again this january, now that i just saw the page on the plays at the plate i would like to see what else is in the book. Plays at the plate can be the most hairy plays just because so many factors come into play as the play develops, i really like that they have the "left handed batter's box position" in here for plays where a runner takes a wide turn, i've found that to be where i end up on most plays at the plate because you just get a great look at the entire play and you can rotate around and out of the way with ease if a runner overslides and misses the base. I think i'll have to make this investment.
