MSBL Wood Bat:

Batter is called out on strikes. He stays in the batter's box, puts his hand on his hip, and says, in a raised voice, "You've got to be FU@KING kidding me!" (Spoken with emphasis on the f-bomb.)

Poll: Do you eject or warn?

My choice is immediate ejection.

That's an Auto. He's got no leg to stand on, if he was upset with himself for lookin at a good pitch he should have been giving himself the F-Bomb on the way back to the dug out. You stand in the box and drop it on the dish you just gave me every reason to punch your ticket.

Whoosh, to the moon Alice!

Gone immediately, if not sooner. When an f-bomb in your direction is said loud enough for half the park to hear, you have no choice. A few years ago, I was working a D-3 college game and punched a guy on a third strike and in the exact same cadence he said, only loud enough for the catcher and me to hear,"bulls---". The catcher and I laughed so hard we nearly fell over. He let his feelings be known without showing me up. That's the difference.

There is another choice... if the game really sucks and the guy just wants to go home... no ejection... wait for the next time he is up and tell the catcher to set up waaaaaaaaaaay outside... or tell him to have the pitcher throw it in the dirt either way call it a strike.... why should he get to go home early if you have to stay and umpire a really bad game...

MSBL... is a bunch a losers who think there are just one look away from getting a contract...

In Southern California, MSBL has quite a few ex-major leaguers and near-misses. Some of them are still in their 20s and 30s and playing real baseball. And some of the 18 and over summer wood bat is is not too much lower in quality than the good college summer ball you see in the bigger leagues. So some of them are like you described, but there's some pretty challenging ball, too.

But, FWIW, the clown in the scenario was one of the loser guys, I think.

OK. Now what if he does the same thing , only this time he leaves the F word out. Real loud so everyone can hear, just as Kevin describes it, hands on hips, standing in the box, "You've got to be kidding me".

Are you still going to instantly eject?

That would depend on a lot of things. His general attitude in earlier at bats, his tone, the flow of hte game. But without the F bomb he'd get some extra rope.

Really??? keep this ache in the arse around to teach a lesson to someone who obviously doesn't care. Get in the catchers ear and put your credibility on the line to teach a lesson to someone who doesn't even wanna be there? Who is in who's head now?

This one may not be so cut and dried. I think that this is situational. If the offense had been barkin' at pitches all day and u may had even glances a look over @ their dugout or better yet, issued a warning on B & S, then u should EJ on the situation Kevin described.

Now lets say everything til that point had been "church" on the offense and the batter puts his hands on his hips and says " U got to be fuc#in' kidding be?" I would probually come back with " no...I am not fuc$in' kidding you.."

Then we would go from there. If he gets personal or he continues to act out, you EJ. There are variables.... did I butcher the pitch? If I did, maybe I give him a little rope.

What Kevin did was not " bad umpiring"...however just because an adult uses the word FU@K as an adjective doesnt mean u should automaticly EJ. IMHO

Merry Christmas

I think your idea of conflict management is much different than most of us on here.

In the first case mentioned it would be automatic...captain hook would have his day, in the case mentioned later where the f-bomb was dropped from the phrase i would say for me it would be situational, if the player had an attitude it would depend on previous engagements so to say, and if this was the first one i would probably issue the warning.
