Is any one awarding the batter 1st for catchers INT?... think about it.

Rich, my thought is that in real time, by the time your brain realizes it was interference, you're calling the runner safe anyways. If this is young kids ball, which I got the impression that it is, should we interject, call interference, award the runner home, scratch the pitch from the record book, adjust the count, explain it to the runner looking back at you now, explain it to at least one of the coaches, explain it to the scorekeeper...

or would it be ok to just let it go since the interference didn't interfere with anything based on the OP?

And I'm asking honestly, what a vet umpire would do at a young-ball level.

You have to call it because the batter gets 1B on the CI part.

Does the batter stepping out (assuming at least one foot out) per the OP change the INT call?

So runner awarded home, AND the INT call? Or are you awarding 1st on the INT and sending the runner back to 3rd, despite beating the throw? Seems like that would penalize the O.

I'm used to INT being an immediate time call, but are we looking at this more as an obstruction live-ball call with the runner at 3rd?

If there is a runner stealing home and the catcher (really any fielder)

EITHER

Steps in front of the plate to catch the ball

OR

touches the batter or his bat

(Either one triggers the penalty)

Then it is AUTOMATICALLY (No options are listed so "Where was the batter" doesn't matter.)

Cather's interference AND a balk is charged.

The CI gives the batteer 1B and the balk scores the run AND moves up any other runners. The balk part kills the ball.

It is an intentional double-whammy in the rules and is covered and published as such in the MLBUM
