For those that have invested in a cap guard (the things you put caps in to wash them), what do you think? Do they work? When simply storing, how many can you get to fit in one? Do they stack well for storage?

I've thought about getting them for only storage, and would hope they can store more than one cap.

I use the Honig's Cap Caddy. They are a lot more durable that the ones used to wash caps in. They hold 2 caps nicely but you cannot use them for washing.

I use the thing from WalMart to wash my caps in. Works great for washing them, but I wouldn't really consider storing them in it. However, I was looking for something to keep my hats in to store in my bag. I looked at the Honig's Cap Caddy but it was $10 + $10 to ship it, and it would only really hold 2 caps. For about $22 total I went to Lids (HatWorld) and got their hard shell cap protector. This will hold probably about 4-6 caps easily. I only keep 3 in there, but have room for other things (I keep some cold weather stuff in there, ear muffs etc). I definitely like this, and would recommend looking into that idea if you don't mind spending a little extra cash on it.

I fold my caps. Flip the bill up and then pull the back of the cap over the bill. Hard to explain, but works. Caps come out looking fabulous.

You can make your own cap cleaner solution for a drastically lower price than $4.99 for that tiny bottle.

Those cap carriers are pretty cool.

Maybe I'm the weird one, but I just my dishwasher strictly for stuff I eat my grub with. I'm not putting a sweaty wool hat full of cleaning chemicals in that same machine.

I have always used Cap Caddy's and the Cap Keep to store my hats but I really like the look of the New Era cap holder. The one that is on pre-order and is said to hold 6 caps would be great. During HS season we can wear Black or Navy and Mesh or Wool. So I could easily carry all 4 base hats and one navy and one black plate hat...I wear an HSM so the plate hats are for when I have to go to a backup mask.

This would cut down on the amount of hat holders I travel with and should allow me to organize stuff better. Might have to order one...I wish they had dimensions on the website.

I'm with you. I'm all over that six-pack job. It'll fit beautifully in the left section of my Diamond Ultimate Gear Bag. :yippie:

Just added it to my Amazon wish list...great way to get the wife and family to support my umpiring habit.

As far as washing a friggin' cap: When you come off the field, give it a liberal spraying with a Febreze-like mixture after each use and you won't need to wash it very often. (Use either heavily diluted Febreze, or a mild water/alcohol mixture.) Then, on occasions when the cap still requires washing, just dip it in a pot of warm water with a very small amount of laundry soap and a teaspoon of Oxy Clean and swirl it around for a little while. Rinse it thoroughly. The cap will be clean and fresh and your budget will never feel a thing.

Now, if you really want to unload more money than you need to, buy that cap cleaner solution from Lids.

The balls & strikes, safes & outs, fair/fouls and rotations are all at college speed and it's eye-opening and game-enhancing. It's the best fall and winter work there is. Keep enjoying it, Brother.
