Eject em all, let god sort em out. As MST says "Our job is to administer games and control the participants." My sons play in leagues and I watch games all the time and I hear umpires get it all game and do nothing, that only sets that bar high for the coach with the next umpire. "I got away with it last game I'll do it again" mentality. The ejection list published on this board is a great tool, and should be used. you cannot let them get away with it EVER, you lose your game integrity and that is very hard to get back once lost. Saying that, assignors and league presidents need to ensure Umpires are not being put in those positions by coaches and parents. Unfortunately we will have Umpires call balls and strikes just to get money and not be bothered with the administration and control of the game.

Sometimes it is warranted and necessary to EJ, some guys do it for their own power/ego trip. If I can go a full season w/o dumping anyone I think it's a testament to me.

I've seen your work, and I'd say no ejections on your part is a testament to the coaches !! ;)

People who think that don't get it. If you're not EJ-ing someone ..maybe it means that you have total control over a game and there's nothing to get into an argument about .... right?

1990-1995 , long layoff................ 2010 - current ........... 1, count it, 1 EJ. And NO, I don't take any crap either

Full disclosure: I personally think that no ejections over a long stretch can imply more that that official in question is getting walked on more than he is controlling the game. OR, to be fair, maybe any warnings issued are the 'good' kind - meaning, the coach knows with absolute certainty that he has found The Line, and no mistake. Or - and these places DO exist - you work a lot of games in an area where the coaches/players/families realize it's not life and death. (Those places keep the EJ/game numbers down.)

Having said that, Jeff, I would submit to you that if you're having a dry spell, meaning few EJs, you should really take a mental walk back through those games, and make sure why the numbers are low.

And, look, if you - the rhetorical 'you' - can do that, and say with decent certainty that there weren't a lot of coulda-shoulda-woulda moments, then that's good.

But some self-inspection every so often is a good idea. I've tried to do it myself.

Hokie makes a very true statement, if you have a reputation that if you say,"That's enough" coaches understand that is the limit. I have been lucky that I have that rep, so my ejections are low. Players don't always make that distinction. Although ones that have been tossed do and will warn others.

I travel throughout Florida to do weekend tournaments since HS season is over. Here in Jacksonville coaches know that we don't put up with much and are pretty well behaved. We have the occasional trouble maker.

But when i go to other parts in Florida these coaches really push you and try to walk all over you. My ejection right goes up when I travel. I expect my ejection rate to go lower as these coaches are seeing me more often and get to know me. Some of these coaches have even asked for my business card after games so I can Umpire some of their games at a later time.

At Disney we never eject players or Coaches.

At the pre game meeting we get the Head and base coaches names

If there is a problem with a player we call time in the same tone as our ball call.

Then we walk over to that player's Coach and say "Coach________ player number xx is disqualified."

You have to remove him from the game.

If the Coach refuses, you ask which one of the base coaches is now the Head Coach because Coach_____ is disqualified.

"New head coach, You have to remove the former Head Coach from the game".

They get the hint.
