Tough call, but the video seems to show the call was missed.

It just affirms my belief that if players make the routine plays routinely then there are less issues with the umpiring.

I read the story that Mattingly is upset that Tichenor didn't go for help. on this.

If the players make every play routinely, we wouldn't be needed. They could have four old ladies from the nursing home out there.

This is a time where PU might have had a look at this.

This is a tough play to call b/c your listening for the ball to pop the glove and his foot to stay on the bag...it happens that fast.

They only get one look at it.

If he had him off of the base...while not popular, PU might have been able to tell him if he had the base or not.

Now didn't someone post something about noticing the hustle down the line by the PU on another play a while back?

There is no need to go for help. He is not straight lined. He saw the foot off the bag when the ball popped the glove.

He clearly saw it was a funny toe dance just like we see, but he had the first baseman off the bag, regardless of what the replay shows.

It looks like he got this one wrong.

If he gets help on this, he might as well get help on a bang/bang normal play at first.

He must live and die with the call be it right or wrong.

They are all being evaluated for the playoffs. Imagine if nobody ever missed a call.

Where would they put 68 guys on the field for the WS.

Oh yes, and everyone would be in the HOF.

Here's the latest from Mr. Lonely.

Amazing how there is nothing about improving player performance.

And when is Lonely going to hit over 300 for a full year of at least 155 games and hit 30 or more homers and drive in 100 or more runs.

And when will he and his teammates have the fewest errors in the majors for a year or average less than 1 error every other game for that matter.

And when is his teammate Ethier going to quit whining about the #6 pitch after swinging at pitch 2 and goodness gracious pitch 3.

I love reading fan comments like in that Yahoo article about Loney. Some guy said they need to "Go back to the way the strike zone is defined in the rule book: From the letters to the knees". He also said that umpires need to wear the outside protector and stand directly over the catcher.

This is the general public for you.
