We had some fireworks Friday night --- here's the ejection write up. I have "blanked-out" team names.

PLEASE NOTE THAT ******** WAS HOME TEAM FOR THE SECOND GAME OF THE DOUBLE HEADER, BUT THE GAME WAS PLAYED IN *****. Top of 1st, 2 out, runner on second base. A groundball was hit to the shortstop who threw to first base. The play was extremely close and I called the ***** runner out. The ***** Manager (acting as 3rd base coach) screamed, "COME ON, THAT'S HORSESH*#! THE KIDS ARE GIVING EFFORT; WHY DON'T YOU?", loud enough for the entire ballpark to hear. I then ejected him from the game. He yelled, "YOU"RE BRUTAL!" He countinued his rant into the dugout. He threw a helmet into the dressing room and a bucket onto the field. By this time, I had taken my "between inning" position on the right field grass, when *****'s Manager threw a ball directly at me from just outside the third base dugout. The ball ended up about 10 feet behind me. The manager shouted, "YOU GUYS RUIN THE GAME!", as he slammed the gate leaving the playing area. The remaining ***** coaches acted in a professional mannor for the rest of the game.

Did you have to duck the throw, I mean was it on line to hit you, cause you can put that in there.. you know he had a good arm in all...LOL :question1:

No, it went over my left shoulder with no real chance of hitting me.

I hope he has to sit out more than just that game. Personally, I think he should be banned for the rest of the year. Throwing a ball at someone with their back turned, whether close or not, is too much. Maybe his aim was just off. Next time someone ejects him for his cursing his aim may be better and catch the umpire in the back of the head or it could be the umpire on his side of the diamond. Anyone who acts like that doesn't need to come back on the field.

You are alot nicer then me. If I get a ball thrown at me, I'm getting a forfeit and walking off the field.

+1 I'm not staying around after that. I may even involve the police.

So, ....one close call and the coach goes crazy?!?! What happended in game 1 that got this guy all worked up so he came unglued on a close play at first in the 1st inning?

+2. As long as I am sure the throw was intended for me, game over.

In game 1 there was a possible pulled foot at first base and my partner didn't ask me for help. When asked, he said he was sure f3 stayed on the bag so he didn't have to ask for help. This got the manager upset, but nothing crazy. Nothing I would call "out of the ordinary". It was one of those games where it seemed that every play was a banger (great pitching and great defense). It was a 2-0 final.

Many umpires in our association have had problems with this coach. He has been dumped 3 or 4 times this season (first by me) and has had many confrontations where he hasn't been tossed. He's a typical RAT who is your best friend before the game and when he is winning, but when something doesn't go his way --- look out!
