This wasnt a balk for no distance, the balk was called because he threw to the 1st baseman who was no where near the bag.

Looks like U2 called it for no step. F3 was able to make a play so it wasn't for that.

Fielder was right at the base and the U2 pointed at the ground so I'm positive that is not the case.

After I finished my 12-pack and watched the video again, Fielder had to be off the bag because I could still see it!

He called it for Verlander not gaining distance/direction. It had nothing to do with F3 not being able to make a play or for not stopping. He spins his hand around right after he calls the balk to show that he spun on his free foot.

doesnt make a difference if the 1st baseman is off, as ling as the throw went toward 1st..

With that said... the balk later on on Shields was also spot on for stepping towards home and throwing to third (the announcers from Tampa thought it was for Longoria not being near the bag)

Clear balk to me as well. Not one we will get in most 2 man systems due to angle (though this one may have been a little more obvious than most) but it is still a balk.
