I'm having a DUMB moment and can't figure this one out. Help Please. And if you can explain it I would Appreciate it.

The starting pitcher is listed as the P/DH on the lineup card. His team gets a 12 run lead after one inning. The head coach can replace the pitcher and put the starting pitcher in to play left field

True or False

As has been stated the pitcher cannot also be listed as a DH. That would apply to FED, NCAA or MLB. By definition a DH is someone in the batting lineup, but not playing defense. Under FED rules once

What has me confused is that since the DH is the Pitcher and he must stay in the same spot in the line up.

So if a new Pitcher comes in then is the original pitcher now a LF/DH?

Or do they lose the DH?

No, Rolando, it's not the same answer for Florida FED (don't know if any other states use the same rule in FED).

Once the P/DH is removed from the mound, he cannot play any other defensive position (check the grey book). Shoot me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll send you a handout our commissioner sent out that has this exact case in it.

Under FED rules, there is no such thing as one player being both the Pitcher AND DH. If there are not two different players listed in the starting lineup as the pitcher (or some other defensive position) and the DH, then that team does not have a DH for the entire game.

The pitcher could certainly be moved to another defensive position after the 1st inning.

Seeing ukc's reply, Florida may not follow "standard FED" in this regard.

Florida does have it's own P/DH rule for HS. Apparently it's a little different than the NCAA rule.

I ended up scoring a 96 which kinda upsets me. I really thought I scored 100. Open Book test everyone should score 100!!!!

Under FED rules once the starting pitcher has faced one batter he can play any position on defense and still return to pitch. If he fails to pitch to one batter he can still play any defensive

position, but cannot return to pitch. Also under FED rules, regarding the DH, whether he is the DH for the pitcher or any other defensive player, once he goes in on defense (any position)'

the role of the DH is terminated for the game and the defensive player for whom he was the DH must come out of the game. Of course the DH doesn't have to play the same position as

the player coming out. The player coming out can still reenter once, but the previous DH must then come out of the lineup (with the right to reenter later).

Actually in NCAA and (at least) Florida FED, you can have a P/DH - a pitcher who also functions as a DH.

No, He can be removed and play another defensive position but can not pitch again.

As I read it in UKCE posting Florida Can have P/DH

This thread is a complete mess. The OP didn't tell us what rule set we're talking about (Not only is it FED, it is Florida's modified FED DH rule apparently), then people who don't know DH rules are chiming in.

Seems typical part of that is because they dont read the thread to see the clarifications before answering. It also seems to apply to all discussion baords and all association meetings. lol
