Hi guys ...

FOR THOSE WHO WEAR EITHER ....which do you prefer / works better?

I usually stay fairly tidy, but I always have this notion to 'readjust' and tidy up, and I don't like it, so I'm thinking about getting either of the above.

Way back when (early mid-90s) I wore a flex ...but wanted a comparo if possible?:agasp_:

Thanks!

I have never worn the flex belt, but I started wearing the ultimate belt this season and I love it. I cannot imagine umpiring without it now.

From what I heard, the holes in the flex belt can tear, but you will not have that problem with the ultimate belt.

DO NOT GET THE FLEX BELT!! That was the cheapest piece of $h!t material belt that I have ever bought. I had it, got to use it for 3 weeks, then the latch that holds the two pieces together broke off. I am planning on getting the ultimate belt when I upgrade some of my gear this fall. Until then, I repeat, "DO NOT GET THE FLEX BELT!!!"

I second that! I have the flex belt and it did not hold up. However, I did have my mother place a button on the belt so that I can button it now rather than clasp it (since the clasp was GONE after the 4th time I used it). I am going to give the ultimate a try. I've heard it is much better!

Yes, when you take it off. But who cares at that point? It stays perfectly snug. This is the first year I've used one and I've haven't had to "readjust" yet. I don't know why I waited so long to finally get one :smachhead:

SWEET!! Thanks Chris, that's funny!:rock

Thanks everyone, Ultimate it is!:HS

I have them both, and the Ultimate is better. The one problem is that the velcro is already worn out and I just got it last year. It is rather difficult to keep it fastened sometimes.

So far, I have not any problem with the velcro, but it is my first season using it. They are cheap enough, that I would not mind having to replace it every couple of years or so. I wore my again in a high school playoff game behind the dish last night and it was great.

Will be wearing it again tonight down at first base. Don't really understand why we are rotating that way, but I like being at first.

Guys, on a re-hash of this ...

I did get the Ultimate belt when I was out at Honig's last week and I have a question. My first inclination is to wear it 'lower' than my regular waistline and outer belt, but I'm finding it rolling on my a bit .....am I safe to assume that I should keep it just below my 'normal' waist line, ....or .....what I'm saying is, am I wearing it "too low" :P:

Thanks ....

I wear mine well below my normal waistline. When I have worn it higher and my shirt creeps up a bit, the ultimate comes with it. One time it actually ended up being higher than my pants. So, I have found the lower I wear it the better, but that is just IMO.

Ok thanks, maybe I'm not LOW ENUF :P

Serious question...why? I have always tucked my shirts into the top of my tights and have never had a problem with shirts coming untucked....:P

I think the purpose of the ultimate/flex belts is to keep your pants from sliding down, not to keep the shirt tucked into the pants.

The purpose...at least for me...is to keep my shirt from coming untucked. It also helps to keep the shirt from looking "bunched" up when it is tucked in. I think it gives a cleaner look.

As far as I can tell, they have no effect on keeping the pants up. On the ultimate belt, the gripper material is on the side that contacts the shirt and not the pants.

The best thing that would help me would be to lose some weight. My large stomach and my lack of much rear end makes it hard to keep my pants where I want them.

I agree with why for either. Proper sized pants and a shirt with a decent tail will stay tucked. I bought a flex belt years ago, wore about three times and got rid of it. That was over a quarter century ago and haven't lost a shirttail in either sport I do.

NWA< it's not about coming "untucked" ...it's about everything "staying there" and not having the feeling that you need to adjust your shirt, etc to stay looking sharp.

I once watched an umpire call a virtually flawless game, and manage the entire contest with a smoothness and a command that was almost as good a presence as you could have as an umpire. His evaluator was sitting with me, talking to me throughout, and near the end, when I was lauding the guy for his near-perfect job, the evaluator grumbled, "Yeah, but do you see him keep tucking in his shirt? He did that five times today."

So, after that, I started doing two things: I wear the shirts that fit more snugly, and I wear the ultimate belt religiously. It's like being in the military, except the pay is worse.

I recall that there were these things that some people wore when I was in the Navy called "shirt stays". Basically a garter belt that clipped your shirt tails (front and back) to your socks. Never wore them for two reasons. I thought that the constant compression might make me shorter and I was ever in an accident I would hate to explain to the ER staff why I was wearing them.

Ok, got the ultimate and like it a lot.

Question though ...

Do you find fastening it in front of you tends to bind your shirt a bit? Anyone fasten it off to the side to keep the front of your shirt more 'flat' ?

Thoughts?
