Would you participate in a video evaluation if offered here?

Yes, but I would be concerned about who would be doing the eval. I wouldn't want, for instance, someone like me posting my evaluation as I'm a new ump and still very much learning and don't feel comfortable offering advice to other, more seasoned, umps.

If you had a static panel of guys, perhaps voted on by the site registered users, I feel we could get a more even, consistent evaluation. I know I would benefit from that.

I'd do it, too, but give me some time to get a few pounds off. Those 15 extra pounds the camera adds would just make it rediculous looking!

I'm not a webmaster, Warren, but do you think that the author of the thread could maybe toggle a public/private switch? I think that may solve the public/private question. But like I said, I don't have any experiance running anything more than a Xanga or a Facebook.

And Frank, I think most of the people on here know what the veterans are and so would value the input from the guys who have 1000 posts and have a reputation of giving good advice. I think rookies should be able to comment on the videos as well; even if they just want to ask a question.

Would we want a ranking system like to product reviews? Some of the categories could be "Timing" "Position" "Uniform" "Selling The Call" "Communication"? Or maybe it could be divided into "The Good" and "Constructive Advice" categories? Or it could be just a free for all?

I dunno, just some suggestions but I am definatly game.... if only I can find a camera :lookup

I could make two separate forums one for private evals and one for public. The poster could make the choice of where to post their video.

As for choosing evaluators, if we end up doing this I'd ask a few people if they were interested. I'd have to get a good grip on their background. I don't think I'd make it a public vote for evaluators.

As for the set up or evaluation system I'd figure that out at the time. I'd probably start from my association's evaluation system, the hard part is with video we will only see so much and some factors might not be able to be evaluated, but we'll figure something out.

I'm a bit confused.

If the person doesn't want want a public evaluation I can make the thread only open to the original poster and the evaluators.

If they want to post pubically, but anonymously, I guess I could take care of that too.

No, I am talking about as we had originally had it, being that we didn't know we were being videoed (<--wow, that word looks wierd). I know that if I knew I was being hit with the camera (much prettier looking than the word videoed, or however you spell it), I'm going to do my best that day. I'd rather not know I was being filmed (third time's the charm), that way I can get a picture of what I look like on a regular basis.

I think that for me, even not videoing my games, I could learn a lot, both from the positive and negative feedback provided in the evals. the old "picture is worth a thousand words and video is worth 10 thousand mentality. Seeing what is being talked about as opposed to trying to picture it in my mind based on written descriptions, would be an excellent learning tool.

No different than a parent taping his son at the plate and there you are. Then he puts it on YouTube.

As far as set-up goes, this would likely be the easiest for Warren to do - it's just the basic permissions settings for a given forum.

That's a nice idea to have only registered members be able to view, and easy enough to do.

The poll seems to be really one sided. So I'll work on making this happen soon. As of now I don't have any games Sunday so we will try to go live with it by then.

That was the problem. I was going to travel down to do a tourney with MSTaylor, but it was cancelled. We don't do evals around here.

Unless you do games for the Amish, it would be harder to find a game that wasn't filmed than having a no-hitter. Even if there isnt a video camera, there's plenty of stills being taken.

Nah.......my community is still too lo-tech for that. The only way they typically get put in the newspaper is either one of two ways:

1) They play a bigger school that typically gets paper coverage.

2) The coach does a write up for the local paper after the ball game.
