  1. The worst I ever saw was as a Head Varsity baseball coach, before BESR was around. We were the visiting team, I had a big ol' country boy at bat and he hit a line drive that hit the pitcher on the side of his head and then went into left center field for a double. They took the pitcher to the hospital nut he was OK. Then on the same field not more than a week later the home team this time hits a line drive that hits the pitcher square in the nose....broke two orbital bones and multiple facial fractures, concussion out cold. The kid recovered...if you can EVER recover from that!
  2. I think I got it!!! 2010 BASEBALL CASEBOOK 8.4.2 SITUATION E: All bases are occupied with no outs when B4 hits a ground ball to F4 and R3 collides with him as he is fielding the ball. RULING: The ball became dead when the interference occurred. R3 is declared out . If the umpire declares that F4 could have executed a double play, then the umpire shall declare two outs (the runner who interfered and the other runner or batter runner involved). If the umpire rules that only one runner could have been put out, then only R3 is out. NO RUNS SCORE AND ALL OTHER RUNNERS SHALL RETURN TO BASES OCCUPIED AT THE TIME OF INTERFERENCE.
  3. OK... We have bases loaded nobody out I'm UIC, SLOW ground ball hit to the second baseman...I'm watching the runner from third come home and touch home I see my partner with a delayed dead ball signal and the baserunner on the ground...he calls obstruction and the runner out (he should have called interference on the runner) because the runner intefered with the fielder. NOW the defensive coach comes out and asks if the runner who was cfoming home should have been called out because he was the forced runner...my partner says NO because there was NO chance for a double play and only the runner advancing to second would be out. I remember somthing in my readings about a leading runner being out on interference Could I get some help and NFHS Rule?
  4. Thanks lots of help !!!!!!
  5. SNIPERBBB Are you sure rule 8-8-14 NFHS ... where my book only goes to 8-4
  6. I umpire some inner city and public park games that have bases that move(they are not posted into the ground) and I am asking for a rule reference on bases that are moved by a runner sliding into a base and by the force of his slide the bag or his foot moves into the fielder. I am perplexed by the rule for oversliding...I can see if the base is posted into the ground but what about these bases that move. What is the proper NFHS rule on this problem? To be more specific In the case of a runner sliding into second on an attempted double play and the base becomes dislogded and his foot the base and the fielder become entangled....do you call the runner and the BR both out or just the baserunner?

  18. I use my index and middle fingers for 2. 3 balls, I use my middle ring and pinky and hold my indicator with my thumb and index fingers. I will verbally give the count after every pitch to a batter. I will use the fist for 0. When I give the count I will give it towards my partner and both dugouts. I give the count at chest level and against the back round of my shirt

    Right Call?

Hime Plate umpire ruled the other day that "a runner can advance on a ball that is fouled into the catcher’s mitt and then bounds away to the backstop" IS THIS CORRECT?

    Helmet ?

Thank you Majordave...that's the way I read it BUT the umpire I was working with the other day wanted to have them with helmets on.
  23. POLOGREEN

    Helmet ?

Is there any point of emphasis for non adult "shaggers" wearing helmets? Does this mean the player who goes out to warm-up the right or left fielder between innings MUST wear a helmet?
  24. This is a point of emphasis in New Jersey this year...trying to get ALL umpires on the same page mechanically, to make sure that in state sectional and beyond that umpires from all parts of the state (north, south, sect 1,ect.) are using the exact same mechanics. I had it in a game last night...the base umpire was in C one inning and B the next....we corrected it!
  25. Larry, thats what was taught at our association and at the Rutgers Prep Clinic. Thats what the State wants here in NJ!
