Gear for a Newbie

I was wondering if anyone has a list of equipment and clothing a new guy would need. I am trying to figure out what all to buy as well as recommended brands or models. I appreciate any help you can give.

What level of ball and how much will you be willing to spend?

I was looking for stuff for every level of ball in general. I was also looking for a cost of under 450 or 500 for everything from hat down to the shoes.

3. Shins

4. Everything else

5. Buy both base and plate pants. Don't buy combos.

If you're not in a super hurry, check ebay. If you're in a hurry, I'd go with Honig's, Ump Attire, etc.

Check both Honig's and Ump Attire for 'package deals' also, but ..for you chest protector, (CP) ....get a hard-shell, ..period :GL:

From one newbie to another. I have to realistically tell you that you can expect to lose money for the first two years, if you do it right.

Spend the money on the best equipment, the best clinics, and the best training material.

BUT, If you DO go with cheaper equipment, make sure you have a plan to sell it or gift it. Make sure someone benefits from the extra money you spend in the long run.

That's just for protective gear. Pants run about $50 for plate or base pants, you can get combo's depending on your shin guards. Hats are about $11 each, I like 4 stitch they can be worn behind the plate and on the bases. Belts run about $20 and most are 1 3/4 '', you can choose patent leather or regular. Shirts; you can get from $10 if on sale from certain stores - to $30+. I personally wear honigs brand, and I like them - they run about $27 if not on sale. See what your umpires in your area are wearing, navy is pretty standard and most people should have it - although some like black and the other colors. Ball bags, most work, you can go cheap on them. You need a cup if you don't have one already. Pick up a indicator and a plate brush.

That package on ebay seems to be a good collection of gear. It will leave you with extra money to pick up good quality attire.
