Okay,

12-14 A division game. Runner on second gets caught in pickle between second and third. I'm the base umpire in the C position. The pickle lasts for a couple times going up and down, finally when the runner returns to second trying to get back to the bag he's tagged out.

Third base coach runs out to me near second and argues the pitcher balked. I said there was no way the pitcher balked. He said "he tricked the runner he was pitching!" Biting my tongue I almost told him that his runner was stupid enough to run on the same pick off move he's had the whole game. But I told him to go back into the coaching box.

After that the head coach comes running out arguing that his runner was obstructed going to third base and that's why there was a pickle. Then continues to go at me, and I told him enough and go back to the dug out. As he was crossing the third base line he turns and says to me, "Why don't you start watching the game blue." And I ejected him.

What always gets me upset in a situations like this is, if these coaches/parents who are trying to raise the next A-Rod would just come out and ask for an appeal I would discuss it with my partner and we'll talk about something like this. But when you come out to just argue and try to make me look like I can't do my job, when the call was correct... You're not getting anything out of me.

Needless to say, he wouldn't leave the field, I told him if he does not leave the field the game will be forfeited.

Sounds like the Offensive Coaching Staff was trying to cover their own screw-up (anybody know how to yell , "Back?"), by running down the "This is the Umpires Fault, because_____" list, and you tossed him before he got to "We're just here for the kids", at the bottom of the page.

Good toss...

Thoroughly agree. :angel4:Good toss. Today I had a partner that had a strike zone up and down the size of Minnesota. The coach after the game (lost by 1) lets my BU have it. :banghead:

I wish he had tossed him. I understand that Connie Mack rules say that if you toss someone it costs them 1 game and $100 to come back. The RATS want to blame it all on us. At least the Moms were kind to us as we left the field. :smachhead:

Sounds like you could have gotten your first toss right there. A) assistant coaches don't come out to argue; :smachhead: any coach that comes 'running out' probably needs to go.

The ejection was warranted and probably a 2nd one should have been done long before the first one it sounds like.

However, if he did ask you to ask your partner for help, would you have and why?

The reason I ask is b/c of 2 reasons.

If the PU thought a balk or OBS had occurred, he should have called it. If he didn't make that call, then it should be obvious there was no balk and no OBS on the play. So, no need to ask.

2nd, if you did ask, then he did just make you look like you can't do your job. This is your play until PU can get up the line to help. And, I might want to ask where was your PU? Was he not at 3B for his part? Until then, the whole play is yours. So, no need to ask unless shielded for some reason and there is a strong chance the PU might have seen something. If any doubt of his angle, then no asking for help. Odds are I probably wouldn't be asking anything about this particular play no matter how it turned out.

Please RefUmp, don't bring us good minnesotans in to this ok? :smachhead:

Ya, sure, ya'betcha, dont'cha know! :banghead:

P.S. does that mean, he was not calling the middle out side strike and also calling 1 pitch up high? (As per the shape of my great state.)

better than saying he was calling a strike zone that looked like Oklahoma. long and thin most of the way and then calling a pitch four feet into the other batters box only at the batters belt... LOL California would be even worse. Outside corner from the eyes to the thighs and then making a 45 degree turn all the way to the ankles on the inside corner... HA HA HA... to much fun

That was not a slam on The Nanny State. It was a compliment. I lived out there for 2 years doing computer contract work (Brooklyn Park). :HD:

How do you get your baseball season completed? You only have 2 seasons: Winter and Contstruction.

Good question about my parallelism of Minnesota and his strike zone. I guess. He was awful. He's done just about every league in the greater Philly area but he had a bad day. He called one kid's fastball in the dirt RIGHT in front of the plate a strike and the very next pitch a ball belt high over the plate. :tantrum:

BTW, In my earlier post I misstated. I was BU and he was PU.

Tell me about it, last night at my game it was windy, cold and (although not technically) it SNOWED! :WTF Small white objects came down, but no spots were left on my jacket, so it was really raining ice, but that is close enough for snow to me!

During the 4th inning, I smelled something burning like a campfire  I turned around half expecting to see some people standing around one, but there was none at the field... it was at one of the houses nearby.

Only in MN, and maybe Alaska.

Once again. I got no clue what you guys are talking about. Its been chilly here with it being partly overcast, and winds maybe up into the low teens. But the temps have been nice and steady at the mid to upper 70s.

So I ask again... what is the "weather" stuff you guys are all talking about and maybe, just maybe, could you send some our way. We are having a bit of a water drought here in Los Angeles.
