  1. BJ had plenty of chances to stay in ......but .............looks as though Holbrook almost looks like the agressor by "shooing" Upton away?   Thoughts?   http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=26407909&topic_id=&c_id=mlb&tcid=vpp_copy_26407909&v=3
  2. I'm on the stick. R2. B3 ropes one into LC. F7 missed cutoff. R2 rounds 3B and digging for home. Throw pulls F2 up the line. I see the train wreck about to happen and key on how R2 handles it. Sure enough, he braces for impact and lowers his shoulder. Badda-bing-badda-BOOM. There was some chirping from Little Johnny's (his name was, get this, Blaze) grandma. Oh, and since they had no more subs, guess what happened :D
  3. Had my last fall ball game today. It was between two decent teams, but nothing special. All in all, a nice, simple game... Until the bottom of the 3rd. R2, no outs. Batter tips the ball. R2 takes 3rd. HM comes out and says he tipped it. I say, sure did skip. Then why's R2 at 3rd? It's a live ball. He argues and I tell him, its a live ball, runner stays. He goes back to his buckets mumblin and griping. Next batter, kid squares to bunt. Ball comes outside, kid pulls bat back just a bit and doesn't attempt to make contact. I balled it. Hear the HM griping and look at him and he quiets down. Next pitch, kid squares to bunt again and this time, balls inside. The batter drops the bat and bails. Again, I ball the pitch. HM says that's two blue. I pull off my mask, put up the stop sign and say THAT'S ENOUGH! HM jumps off his bucket saying I've had it in for him all season ( my second time doing his game, no problems the first ), that I need to do my job, learn the rules and stop missin calls. So, I dumped him. Then the fun started. He's b!tchin and saying he's not leaving. As I turn to pull the kids off the field til he leaves my BU (president of the league) comes to talk to him. He asked him to leave at least 3 times. And he keeps refusing. So, president declares a forfeit and the games over. I didn't agree with that, but its his call. I feel bad, not about the dump, but for the kids. It's not their fault their coach is a jacka$$. But they are the ones that had to suffer. And this isn't a normal fall ball team. It's mostly a travel team with 3 or 4 non travel players. And if this is how coaches can act in travel ball around my area, I'll stick to my rec league. IMO, its uncalled for and quiet frankly, disgusting. How is this teaching these kids anything about baseball?
  4. I'm still a young umpire. I was working a 15U game. I called B1 out on strikes. The pitch was most certainly a strike. It's the protoypical pitch where the kid ducks, and the breaking ball breaks right over the top for a strike. B1 proceeds to then say "Are you [bleeping] kidding me?" in response to the call; not very loudly. I did not eject him then. I proceeded to walk towards the opposing dugout to retrieve some new baseballs. I saw him then throw the bat in the direction of the dugout. At this point, I proceeded to eject the player. Then, the coach of the ejected player's team comes over and asks me what he said. He seems to be calm with the explanation in which he was given. The assistant coach gets involved, and starts screaming, "What did he say?" ... And I proceed with, "I'm not going to repeat it, and I have informed the head coach, and should he choose to tell you, that is his prerogative" ... And he continues to repeat himself in a derogatory manner, to the point in which I tell him that if he continues this conversation that he will be ejected, and he stated "I just want to know what he said!" ... I ejected him, as well.
  5. USSSA (OBR with Modification) 16U. Names redacted to protect the innocent. XXX came out to argue balls and strikes after I adjudged a 1-0 pitch to be a ball. XXX was quite upset with the last pitch that was called a strike to end the last inning, and came out of the dugout arguing that I could not call that pitch a strike and not call this one while approaching me. I take off my mask and tell XXX “Coach, we are not talking about balls and strikes†while holding up my right hand up like a traffic cop saying stop. XXX does not heed the warning and continues to argue saying “you cannot call that a strike when we have the bases loaded and then call it a ball now.†At this point I ejected XXX and turned away to end the conversation, while walking up the first base line. He kept trying to talk to me, but I kept saying “Goodbye†until he quieted down. He proceeded to leave the field after about another minute. At the middle of the fifth, it was discovered by Base Umpire that XXX was seated in the stands. Base Umpire asked XXX to leave and have no further contact with his team for the remainder of the game. Game ended without further incident. The more I thought about it, the more this was an ejection to attempt to fire up his team. His team was down at the time of the ejection, his team ended up coming back and winning the game.
  6. Make note of Mr. Darling's ejection mechanic here... http://telly.com/SEBRV
  7. Sorry I double posted this, but it might belong here better than in Free for All.
  8. http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=23355303&topic_id=&c_id=la&tcid=vpp_copy_23355303&v=3 The announcers once again prove they're as useful as a used condom.
  9. Easy one for profanity. Names and teams redacted to protect the innocent. Nations Baseball Tournament. In the second inning of the game between the XXX and the YYY, there was a play at the plate. The catcher had the ball up the line and the runner slid. This play led to a hard tag, towards the head, but I did not judge malicious contact to have occured. This was the third out of the inning, and in the middle of the second, I was going over to the YYY head coach to ask him to talk to his catcher to try to keep contact to a minimum. However, before I got over to talk to him, the XXX head coach was walking from the the third base coach box and said to me in passing, in a loud and angry tone "That's bull." Before I could tell him anything, he also said, as he was walking and was at home plate, and directing it at the YYY's bench "That's bush and you godd*** know it." At this point I ejected XXX Head Coach. He left the field at that point. However, between the second and third innings, it was discovered XXX Head Coach was standing out beyond the outfield fence (which is technically outside of the complex on the walking path, but still within sight and sound of the game). The base umpire went out and asked XXX Head Coach to get out of sight and sound of the field, which he then did do. No further incident after this point.

  12. OK, coaches hat on my head for this one... Last night, LL majors game: For starters, I had an idea on what we had for umpires right from the plate conference: BIG deer-in-the-headlights look when they mentioned DBT and I said "2 from the field and 1 from the mound, right?":jerkit: Bottom of 1st 0 outs, R1 (This kid is about 5'10" and 200 lbs). Ground ball to F5, who scoops it and throws to F4. R1 slides into 2B with cleats 3 feet in the air, hits F4 in the glove arm with cleats and ball gets dropped - F4's arm is bleeding from cleat marks. By the way, this was clearly intentional to break up the DP. Now, were I calling this game, R1 is gone. The bozos that were calling the game, however, did nothing about it until at the half inning I called BU aside and said I'm concerned that he didn't at minimum, issue a warning - which he promptly did. Anyone else here that would have punched this kid's ticket for going in to 2B with the cleats into F4's arm? (remember this is LL!) Next play, grounder to 4'6" F6, the un-ejected (big-boy) R2, runs straight line towards 3B, keeping F6 from fielding the ball - here I have INT since F6 had to to choose: stop or get splattered! No call from the umpires, but it gets even better... Ball gets past F6, F7 is charging and bare hands the ball to throw to F5, who is standing just behind 3B, Before the throw gets there, R2 shoves F5 out of the way and heads home to score!!!!! Again no calls by the crew. Absolutely clueless!!! Oh yeah, the BU would line up right behind F1 (infield) with runners on - on a 60' diamond!?! My only thought by the end of the game was "...and they PAY for umpires like this?!" We play in a multi-community league, where ours is the only one that doesn't pay - I'll take our volunteers over these clowns any day!
