The problem with a BU with an indicator is if he tells the runner the count (such as 3-2) and now there is an issue with him running on the pitch. (Yes, lets skip the conf. with the coach about his running needing to pat attention and move on). What I would be looking for if I were the PU is when I ask my BU I say, "I have 1-2, do you have anything different?" Then I should get a, "Nope." or "1-2 sounds like what I have." Basically, if the BU doesn't know he says what his partner has. Then we move on.

Yes - why so much emotion over a JV game? Just because it is a JV game, means it is less worthy of emotion? I played JV for 2 years as I was not good enough to play on Varsity (made the bullpen catcher Senior year, never saw a minute of playing time). For some kids that is the best they will do. What if that batter has never, and will never, hit a ball that far again? If I were him I would want my coach defending the unbiased call, instead of listening to F8 who has a stake in the play. No need to necessarily do everything you can to get ejected (which shows me this is an un-trained rookie), but definitely contact the association and let hem handle the lack of knowledge.

Normally, I agree with what you say UIC, but in this case you are wrong. I was at the game and there were 39,998 people that were racking up that out. The only 2 who missed it were the runner and Marquez. Here are my thoughts on making that call... 1. If he did miss, and he didn't, how can you possibly make that call when the runner stops. 2. If you are going to make that call, it had better be 100% right. You had better see clear daylight between the runner and glove. Also, what was Marquez thinking when Gardy came out? Isn't one of the guidelines for meeting a manager that you meet him in the grass so he cannot kick dirt on you? Not many MLB mangers left that would do this, but I think Gardy would be on the list.

At time of tag play: Signal safe, verbalize "no tag" Upon the runner passing the plate he is assumed to have acquired it and is no longer in peril to be putout, unless by appeal. Once R3 hits the plate, he has eliminated a logical attempt at an appeal.

I thought it was very funny and made me laugh a lot. The title really says it all.

I got this book last year and could not put it down. I was up until 2:30-3:00 in the morning reading, only to be at work at 8:00 most days. The chapters are a little on the long side for me, I prefer lots of short quick chapters (feels like I am reading more than I probably am). I think it might open some eyes to what umpiring is really like to people who don't know any better.

Ok, some of you might be wondering what this thread is about. I, in addition to being an umpire, am also a photographer. I am on many forums on-line and one thing that I have noticed is that in most communities people will post what their gear list is. In photography what camera bodies you use, what lenses and such. I have found that to be very helpful because it allows me to see what others use quickly and easily without having to continually ask. So I figured for my I would try to start this here. Please post your gear list, and if you want to put a link in you signature to your post so others can find it easily. Edit whenever you need to as your gear changes. So here goes... Can I get some clarification on whether people are getting/wearing the standard-profile or the low-profile mask?

Hmmm... I feel like I have read this before. But, I just cannot put my finger on it.

1. I like the use of the english spelling of saviour, you so rarely see that nowadays. 2. I think there are some better words we could find to describe Selig. I am not sure that saviour would be on my list. :)

Kinda reminds me of a line from Major League (I or II, I don't know)... "That's it you're outa here! All of ya!" as the whole team is on the ground fighting.

Not really a vet, but I would like to answer anyways. Never admit to it on the field. Never. It doesn't help anything in anyway. Occasionally, if I have known the coach for years, or is a fellow ump in another league, after the game I might admit it. Most recent time I blew one, it was a 3-4 game in the 5th, F1 has been lights out this inning. 1-2 count pitch right down the middle. I had been jumpy all night and was really working this inning on sticking in there, and got too focused on that to notice the pitch was a strike. Everyone starts yelling, the pitcher is about ready to charge me, and all I hear from the coach in the dugout is, "Get over it! You know you have it. Now throw another one, and get the hell in here!" THANK YOU COACH!

Socks. Lack of MLB logo on shirt. Lack of real MLB logo on hat. One-size fits most hat. (Yeah, more like 1-size doesn't really ever fit most) Half-inch belt. Left-hand wrist watch. But after I saw the moves, I though Bruce Fromming had come back.

I typically don't wear a jacket when the air temp is cold, generally it comes out when it is cool & windy. I am a "husky" fellow, and when I sweat, sweat a lot. So when the wind is blowing I wear a jacket to keep me from getting extremely cold. In some places that can lead to hypothermia. In regards to crew matching, for the most part leagues will state that all BUs must have same apparel, but the PU can wear what he wants. In my leagues the PU has the decision on the color of the day. Many people will say that when the BUs are wearing jackets/smocks that the PU should be in a LS shirt, but I am not that picky.

Most would consider checking your fly, that you have nothing on your shirt, on your face or in your teeth; and then asking the coach if you missed anything as inappropriate or baiting right? :hi5:

It has to do with the "degrees" of an area that you cover (the inverse of the reason goalies move out when defending 1-on-1). Let's say the area behind the hitting zone is 90*. At 2.5' wide, and only 3' back you may take up 60* and only leave 30* for the ball to escape. But at 6' back you may only take up 30*, leaving 60* for the ball to escape. That is the best explanation, that I can give i with words. I hope that maybe helps.

Richardson Flex-fit, 6-stich, wool. I have tried the fitted and it is great if I don't grow hair & never cut it, but other then that they don't stay "fitted" very long. I don't like the look of the mesh it seems cheap to me.

With the appeal being considered a timing play, can the defense verbally make a dead-ball appeal with the runners still rounding the bases in order to try to get the out prior to other runner's scoring?

2 outs, bases loaded, HR. R3 misses HP. DEF appeals & is successful. Would this be a case where no runs would score?
