  1. LL has it’s issues (oh, so many) but even for them 9U post-season tournaments are unofficial. Aside: I was asked to do our District 9U championship plate. One team’s staff was wack-a-doodle from the start. Closet I’ve ever come to ejecting someone (other than the one I should’ve when I was a noob). I haven’t even felt like doing a game since (other stresses add to it but that game sucked something out of me).

    Ejection

For brevity I kept my prior comment succinct. if they are provided by the team AND are sitting in an official(ish) location, their behavior has to be moderated. Cheering of the “yea!” variety, sure. Crossing into guidance or direction (especially given their advantageous seat) - nope. My home LL fields have scorekeepers boxes right behind home plate. I regularly need to nicely ask folks to not coach from back there (and never have an issue thereafter). It’s a different level of expectedbehavior than being 10 feet to the other side but outside the scorers shed. Scorekeepers sitting in the stands? No special standard (but are hopefully nice when we interact).

    Ejection

That’s a legitimate JV strike all day, every day. Official scorekeepers give up their rights to cheer. That’s a nonpartisan role.
  4. KayTup, pay attention to that middle upper diagram. You'll feel exposed and want to creep to the catcher's left shoulder. DON'T. It takes you out of the slot (as shown, the slot is based on the batter not the relationship between the batter and the catcher). It also shows how far outside the catcher is setup and, even though the pitch "hit the mitt", it was well outside when you properly balled it.
  5. For completeness... Is this different under OBR?
  6. At the risk of overdoing it... I'm with you @ArchAngel72 but I do have to combine it with @Rich Ives's point: imo you can't have the exact same physical zone for every batter because of that little batter who could stand on the chalk and still be 2 inches shy of reaching the outside strike you call on the normal size kid.
  7. and the kids mother!

    Runner already out

Don’t confuse random number theory with conscious action of a 4/5 yr old. Our local t-ball (no, not perfect) everyone bats every inning. Everyone gets a single except the last hitter who gets a home run (it’s shocking how it happens every time). The defense is fundamentally sound as they never give up a steal, no runner ever goes first to third, or second to home or advances on a wild pitch. ‘oh, and there is no scoreboard. If the kids can’t count, why should the adults?

    Balk and HBP

Yep...not to bird walk too much...but I had to take a double away from a kid two years ago. Ugh Same, but different…
  10. Huh. Interesting. Thank you sir.
  11. You may not have to learn it for long. My understanding this was simply a Covid concession for pace of play (we all see how that turned out 😶) since they weren't supposed to share equipment and will be rescinded as soon as next year.

    Balk and HBP

Team scores but Batter gains a bruise, loses an RBI, and has to bat against the guy that just plunked him. Yee-haw 😬 @Kevin_K Good on you for growth mindset. That seed of doubt can grow less next time. 😉
  13. I know! It's a double bag for players with very small feet.
  14. Whew, I was able to find it somewhere (since I was spouting what I'd been told but not read it first hand). I didn't look for other rulesets. https://usssa.com/docs/2020/FPRB_Online_revised_011620.pdf USSSA Rule 3. Definitions: "BUNT, ATTEMPTED. An attempted bunt (“offer”) is any movement of the bat toward the ball when the ball is over or near the plate area. Holding the bat in the strike zone is considered an attempt to bunt. In order to take a pitch, the bat must be pulled back away from the ball. " (emphasis mine)
  15. Out!? Dang. How about we swap them when discovered. Softball is brutal sometimes - out for leaving early (different measurement point than LL, I know), bunt strike without intent. @Senor Azul is there anything for baseball (I looked in LL and don't see anything about using wrong player to courtesy run).
  16. What's wrong with that? The line is straight....
  17. Awesome. Congratulations brother.
  18. Interested in how the F3's failed. fwiw, the Wilson Platinum serve me well https://www.ump-attire.com/Products/A3417-CHA/Wilson-MLB-Platinum-Umpire-Shin-Guards
  19. Odd. Isn't for me. Alternate link https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/mlb-may-have-a-fix-for-baseballs-sticky-situation-the-ball-mudder-machine/ar-AALiT12 Article title you can search if still an issue: MLB may have a fix for baseball's sticky situation: The Ball Mudder machine
  20. ‘Who is someone that has never been in my kitchen?”
  21. Each one is HBTT of course but, if the pitch is entirely in the batters box? "take your base". Also, lol, remember context. At my son's JV game 2 years ago, PU jumped on him for leaning into it one. My son stated he didn't (of course) and they went back and forth - all at normal volume. PU then realized it was ball 4 and sent him to 1st. My son said (at normal volume) "christ" in exasperation at the needless argument and PU tossed him. My son needs to own it (he did learn from it to say nothing at all going forward and no longer leans into pitches) but, at the same time, the PU needlessly created the situation - in my biased opinion
  22. I hear you about what the dugout is saying. The stands, including the 9's All Star game plate I did the other night, mean "get plunked take the base". This from people who think it's nothing*. Those fools don't get to see the look in those kids eyes at the near death experience. Dismiss it all they want but that kid just experienced a REAL threat in their mind. I see the fear (I'm talking 8-12 yr olds). * We know they don't feel good. I still have a large pebble sized bump on my shin bone from a 10U warm up pitch 6 weeks ago (my fault as BU for going back there between innings). ** AND these are the same people who are too scared to come back and ump. Sheesh.
