Yeah, I stick with the AS because I prioritize protection and I trust the pads AS uses more than the brim strips the other skull caps use. Adding in that the AS pads are washable is another attribute in its favor.

FS: Gerry Davis, Plus-pos, Wilson Mask stuff
AtlUmp replied to MAUmpire's topic in Buy, Sell or Trade
I'll take the GD pads and cores -
Fun fact, since I was bought the mask I have a set of pad socks now and tried them in both the 1DJQH120 and 1DJQH200. The chin pad fits well in the 1DJQH120 but the top pad is...interesting. Meanwhile, the 1DJQH200 is the opposite with the top pad fitting well but the chin pad either doesn't fit right or compacts the middle mold depending on how you tighten it down. Looking forward to trying out the Cloud4 Pads with the late cold we're getting in Virginia and hopefully the universal socks are still in the pipeline my Team Wendy's could use a new cover.

Has anyone tried fitting the current socks to either of the Japanese Mizunos? The product page only mentions fitting the Nike Ti and Wilson Dynalite style masks and I haven't seen anyone post about trying it on here.

New shoe search.... Mizuno - Japan sites?
AtlUmp replied to BLWizzRanger's topic in Umpire Equipment
The best way to find gear is through a manufacturer's website using a browser that can auto translate the website, from my experience, Chrome is better than Firefox at Auto translating Japanese websites. Once you find the product you can then take the product number and go to a proxy service such as Buyee. What a proxy service allows you to do is go through different retailers such as Yahoo or Rakuten and search the shops there for the product and buy it. They will then receive it at their facility in Japan and ship it to wherever you are for a fee. They also support buying from different retailers and then consolidating the package at their facility before shipping it to you if you're buying multiple products such as both umpiring gear and anime stuff. Just expect shipping to start at like $20. -
Now I'm no physicist but I have a feeling that pitting like that would cause the radar cross-section to increase.

Awesome, that means that even if this specific version doesn't fit my Mizunos the universal design will.

The cover with the gray padding especially looks dope as hell. Straight 🔥
-
Based on the first picture it looks like the cover has raised padding that fits into the geometry of the bars that I'm guessing help to keep the pad in place. Will this cause any issues with other masks that don't have the same bar geometry, such as the Mizunos?

Zen and the Art of the Strike Zone or...does F2's reception matter?
AtlUmp replied to SeeingEyeDog's topic in Free For All
Unless it's two high end varsity teams in region or playoffs where the pictures can actually hit their spot more than 4/10 times, I do my best to ignore how the catcher receives the ball. If I balled every reached catch or dropped strike my games would go from under 2:30 to over 3 hours. -
What does everyone work during the summer and fall?
AtlUmp replied to orangebird's topic in Free For All
When I was in Georgia we had all sorts of tournaments, adult leagues, and local travel teams from February through October. You just have to prepare for the summer cause some days may be fine but others will be 95-105, 70-80% humidity, no clouds, and no breeze. You also have HS umpires do softball in the fall. Just moved to VA, I know there are plenty of adult leagues but not sure what else. -
Maybe I should change my username since I've recently moved out of Georgia to northern Virginia. Unfortunately, none of the local stores that I talked to carry them in a size smaller than a #8 thread which is too large a diameter. I've ordered a sample of 6mm, 8mm, and 10mm lengths of M4 OD 5MM based on rough thickness measurements to see which fit best in the different locations and then will stock up what I need from there. My understanding is Grayhawk used 44 after removing the gap protector, the full count as is would be 48. I did pick up the one Jonnycat was selling so the plan is to test the lengths with that one and fix the gap protector that popped out of the flexible strap before taking my gamer out of commission for a full clean/repair. My day job is data analytics so by the end of this I will have a full list of what lengths are needed where if anybody wants it, I just can't help but make spreadsheets anytime I'm planning projects. I'll probably order the Enduro DX in the fall to take a look at it and the new mask pads in person to see how it fit/feels on me but not in a rush when I currently already love what I have.

While I might buy one to check fitting I have doubts on how it would fit me. I am 6'2" 330 with a tall torso so my chest is big and wide. Based on the Ump-Attire measuring guide, I should be looking at a 17 or 18 inch chest protector. Not a lot of selection in that range, if the Enduro had an optional 2 or 3 inch plate extension I could add at the bottom of the 14 inch model it would be more tempting for me. For now I'm going to stick with what I know works for me.

Looking for Douglas shin guards 18 inches.

Grayhawk, how has removing the 3 layers of fabric affected the protection of your System 7? I'm looking at needing to do this for mine before the rivets completely rust away.

Took a break from umpiring and just saw this. I had that first one break back in 2019, the 2nd one I got at the same time hasn't had any issues.

One quick question that either hasn't been asked or I can't find the answer. What's the sizing of the protector with/without the extension? Being a taller umpire with height in the torso anything under 14" doesn't cover my last rib. -
I got 8 in and had 8 rainouts before everything went caput. Hopefully next year is better for everyone

I can say for sure that they are 1" straps.

Really low eBay prices all of a sudden - are they legit?
AtlUmp replied to wolfe_man's topic in Umpire Equipment
It looks like they may still be at it, user sabsew-0. https://www.ebay.com/usr/sabsew-0?_trksid=p2047675.l2559 -
As a bigger guy I love that dip that covers the last rib.
