You dont mention what rules your playing by so... is it supported? In most codes I would say yes But R3 interferes with a catch and he is not being played on so he has no baseline, he has an obligation to avoid the fielder making a play. If I am judging since R1 broke and could F5 make the catch and throw I will give them most benefit of the doubt to the team that did not make the mistake

I always find this terminology incredibly insulting. No one I ever shot EVER got up again.

Agree with the ejection but sometimes the finger your not worthy of extra emphasis (Joe West) is good too.

Best Line Coach Said to You As a Player
Radwaste50 replied to Mark Pepper's topic in Off-Topic/Funny Stories
As player I was catching and we were in a tournament final day our pitching is thin and coach is trying to stretch what he can. I was catching and call the pitch, and the pitcher shakes me off. We repeat this three more times. From the Dugout Coach D yells at the pitcher " Dang it Arty, you've shaken him off four times you only have two pitches" -
Here is an unusual situation to umpiring but looking for input from the collective. For many years our summer baseball has been a pay at the plate situation. Many of the summer league teams are school affiliated. Because of some recent "events" involving non baseball booster clubs, these clubs are now facing more scrutiny, including wanting receipts for umpire payment. I am thinking of ideas and ways to handle this new situation as I have previously just done assigning for the leagues for a nominal amount Ideas 1. Have league (ie Legion, AABC) make payments by invoicing league 2. Use Refpay or some similar mechanism and raise league costs to cover, in this case do you get money to cover umpires up front and draw down account 3. Print up business size cards to act as receipts that can be quickly given Other ideas??

He said the run should not count because he left early In FED i would count this as a verbal dead ball appeal call the out and take the run off He does not have to say "appeal" as the secret password Would you make the player at the base say appeal or if he said "the runner left early" make the call

Haven't had this happen to me in baseball We did have a football official who lost his mind during games when his son played, he went before the board and was removed from post season play and fined by the association.

AAA Little League - How Would You Have Handled it?
Radwaste50 replied to MarkW's question in Ask the Umpire
I am not there to help either the offense or the defense. If you make the appeal you will get the out if not then the run will stand. When I coached we would drill an appeal as part of practice -
I had one where a wrinkle in the carpet of the turf field caught me and went down hard coming in from third. Finished the game but did have to have the knee drained a couple of weeks later. On the other hand in reference to the title, and I've told this to the players on the field when they yell sniper. No one I ever shot in my previous occupation ever got up!

CCA mechanics only have umpires out on trouble balls. I like the logic -- why reduce the number of umpires covering bases on a routine fly ball? This is a trouble ball as it threatens a boundary

Game Situation Runner on first no outs. Batter hits a high chopper to F6. Runner takes off on the hit and F6 tosses to F4 covering at second. Due to time of ball to get F6 only play is at second. F4 fields the ball crossing second and continues towards left field. b. does not legally slide and causes illegal contact and/or illegally alters the actions of a fielder in the immediate act of making a play, or on a force play, does not slide in a direct line between the bases; or 1. A runner may slide in a direction away from the fielder to avoid making Âcontact or altering the play of the fielder. 2. Runners are never required to slide, but if a runner elects to slide, the slide must be legal. (2-32-1, 2) Jumping, hurdling, and leaping are all legal attempts to avoid a fielder as long as the fielder is lying on the ground. Diving over a fielder is illegal. Runner slides but not directly into the bag, he kicks out left leg to the inside. F4 is not making another play and no contact is made. Are you getting a double play on this slide?

Then he better learn to do it before the first pitch as part of stepping in or find another method because it will cost him at bats

I found this post on "My Best Ejection Story" interesting and have nominated it accordingly for "Post Of The Month March, 2009"
