Wouldn't this be considered an overslide and a dbl play? Was always taught baserunner can't slide past the base with his feet and interfere with the def. player. Commonly misunderstood rule. If the fielder is on or in front of the bag, then sliding past the bag is legal as long as the rest of the slide is legal (feet below the knee, no MC, etc). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Your are correct wasnt reading the play throughly enough to determine where the fielder was located at the time he was hit. The play I had he was on the side of the bag and got upended trying to make a throw to first so I rang both up. HC and fans threw a fit but I didn't care

Love my Diamond ix3 not too hot and provides plenty of protection.

Just got my NB in and according to their instructions the NB goes inside the pocket of the battle shorts. Also saw where they used to sale it with a jock strap. Which is the best way for you all? I want to get the maximum protection and best idea of which way is better.

Guess I have been doing this wrong for 8 years but never had anyone question it. I extend my right arm with 3 fingers out and never verbalize anything.
-
Looking to invest in one of the two and not sure which one to get. Any recommendations for which one is better?
-
The first part has one exception and that's with no one on and U1 goes out then PU has all the plays at first base. In 2 man BU would have that. I think that second part has a few (eg more than 1) exceptions but I'd have to dig through the CCA books to find some examples. Well I don't do CCA but was going by the FED and what I have been taught.
-
Good rule to remember in 3 man is once a BU goes out they always stay out. As others have said you then you have regular 2 man rotation. Same in 4 man if one goes out they stay out and then it reverts to 3 man rotation.

I use the scissors stance so I watch the ball into the mitt and stay down until the catcher is removing the ball then stand up and let everyone know it was a "Strike". Slower the better as your making sure its inside your zone.

Had this happen this year also as my BU called it with runners on the corners. The only thing you can do is let the play playout and go with whatever happens. Even though it was a messup the teams and players need to know the rules of when an infield fly is called.

I am bald so I do get some sun. Acutally no it doesn't decrease what I hear and somethings I don't want to hear anyways lol. I was worried I wouldnt be able to remove it as fast as I can my old mask but have found that I can get it off just as fast if not faster and putting it back on is actually quicker for me. I was one that said I would never go to the Helmet and found that after 40 games so far this year that is all I have worn and really love it. After working a sectional game on Friday I found to love it more when I had a foul ball hit the top of the helmet and go about 25 backwards in the air totally out of play and never felt anything.

The one I use is a Diamond. Always swore I would never go to a HSM however I tried one my first game this year and it never left my side bought it for $20 and still think I stole if from my partner.

Fed wants you in B. Everyone wants you in B Thanks HeadHunter, I knew FED for sure, didn't want to speak for other sources. They do but if this same play happens my take on it would be the runner sliding back into 3rd and then your going to have a banger at 3rd and your going to be more on top of the call than you would be from B

I agree bad deal for the visiting team who seemed like they were on the verge of a W. My question is did you all go over suspended game rules before the game? -
If you hustle - and maybe the old guys on the board can't or won't - and run out from the behind the plate, you'll be about the same distance to 1B as you are from C, so I'm just not buying the banger argument. Not great for pickoffs but I'm not banging them out unless I'm sure from B/C either so not a material change either. The only real weak spot is steals at 2B. But I'll gladly trade that off for a better view of the fair/foul lines AND how on earth can you call a close play from behind the mound for a play at home? Grounder to F6 and he throws home? You've got no chance from B/C. Hot line drive just inside the fair/foul line? No chance. You mean you'd rather blow those just to get a better view of a steal at 2nd? Bad cost-benefit trade to me. not that I would rather blow anything just stating on a jv or a middle school which is not taken as serious in my area I am not doing a game alone behind the plate. Much easier behind the mound for me and several others in my board
-
yep...and some of the most important calls, like fair/foul, are so easy from there. Only time we ever call a one man crew is in a middle school or jv game. Unfortunately that doesn't make the calls any less important! That maybe true but the majority in our board would rather get the calls right on the bases and do our best to hustle over to get the foul/fair right then miss tags from steals and bangers from being behind the plate.

where do you call at? In WV there is noone telling us where we must call a one man game from. We usually never do one but on rare occasions that it happens it is up to the individual. Actually I can make better judgements on bang plays when doing it from the mound during a one man crew.
-
Pretty simple for me if I am doing a one man crew I am not calling from behind the plate I will call from behind the pitchers mound and inform coaches I am not listening to complaints I am doing it alone and if you want a better called game you better dish out the money for a second umpire.
-
Never tell where the pitch was missed at unless I am talking to my catcher. If the coach is sincere and asks I will tell him if it keeps up then I just tell him we are not discussing balls and strikes.
-
From what was described its not even close. Batter is getting 1st. We have been delegated to determine if he made an attempt to get out of the way. Key word being attempt that is up to us to decide. 99% of the time I will give the batter 1st unless he intentionally sticks his arm out over the plate to get hit.
-
I never verbalize balls. On foul tips just give the signal and the out signal on a dropped third strike I give the strike signal and hold it until there is a play at 1st if out I will then give the out signal if safe I do nothing. Never verbalize anything on a swinging strike, and on check swings if he went I say "yes you did" and give the strike signal. Routine pop ups with no one on I say nothing, but if runners are on I always verbalize "catch" loudly along with the signal to help my partner so he will know if they tagged up properly. If ball is an obvious foul never verbalize it but if its close I do loudly.

A little off topic and not related to the actual play and call, but isn't the proper mechanic for the PU to make this interference call with just R1? Normally it is however in my case I was with a 1st year umpire and he wasn't aware that was his call. If there is no throw then the majority of the time the BU can make that call.
