When he comes set as in #8, that's a balk. From what I've seen (so far) around here, the pitchers and coaches have gotten the memo.

...and that's why I wear a 15". Heal up fast, Mike!

Welcome to the U-E! What state are you in?

First games in 7 years tomorrow! any advice?
SnareDrum replied to RingEmUp918's topic in Free For All
Don't let them surprise you. Just when you start thinking that they're not that good, or they don't know what to do... they'll start hitting on O and executing on D. We get guys here that get butt-bit every season because they weren't in position for a DP or a play at the plate or a rundown or a banger just because they didn't think the kids would/could do it. Otherwise, enjoy yourself and have fun! -
Then B4 is up when his team bats again? Or do we move on to B5?

A nasty fastball would be my exception A nasty fastball... yeah that would probably be an exception. With these two, I'd have one staying, and one HBP.

Good call. In girls FP, they edited the rule so that if the pitch is in the batter's box (out of the strike zone), they don't have to move. Of course, they can't lean into it either. In baseball, it's not an attempt to get out of the way. It's "the batter shall not permit the ball to hit him"... to me... means that he shall not permit the ball to hit him. Respectfully, NO, I'm not going to just let him stand motionless. They should be coached with the rule so that they do what we've all seen: at the least, turn your back. Give me some sort of movement to work with. Any batter that freezes and lets it hit him in the box is going to see at least one more pitch in that AB, unless there were three balls at TOP.

4 inches of snow on the way today... rain and snow tomorrow... an inch+ of rain expected on Saturday... more snow coming Sunday. Looks like I'm losing at least 8 games. If you live east of Missouri, heads up! At least I'll get to watch more basketball!

I've always been a Tony Pena fan. I'm hoping that some smart GM will give him a shot at being called "Skipper". ...and I'm still shaking my head at that thoroughly botched double-steal by the Japanese. If you get tagged out by an F2... at 2nd... without a throw OR a rundown... yeah, that's messed up.

Well that's that. Congrats to the DR. See y'all back here in 2017! I was most impressed/surprised by: The Netherlands. I bet a few off that team will get a shot at some MiLB... and what the hell happened to Cuba?

After striking out in every at bat over the season... a 8 year old get his first hit in the last game of the year. Cool story with this, but I'll tell it another time.

Just ask yourself... "What would the attorney for the plaintiff ask me?"

Doesn't this company know it there is a FEDERAL law against altering bats?! Cite it please. -------------------------- There actually isn't a specific Federal law against altering bats. Alterations fall under the broad scope of Federal (and many state) copyright"trademark laws" that can be prosecuted by a governing body such as USSSA using that trademark violation provision. See Why is bat doctoring illegal? for more...

I have some that I've been holding onto for some reason. I found myself in a tough spot 3-4 years ago and I was literally forced into them (they're a size too small). The treads are gone and there's a small tear or two up around the padded ankle area (cuff hides and not that noticeable anyway), but yeah, I'd call them serviceable. Even at a size too small, they're still relatively comfy and they "walk soft". The brand? No clue, but they could probably do the job until he can afford better. If you want, I could snap and PM a pic or two. All they need is a shine and some strikes... but isn't that what all plate shoes want? Price? Free to a good home. And maybe a small favor owed? ( )

What a great way to spend my First-Game-of-Season Eve... USA vs Puerto Rico to see who goes on, or who goes home. No pressure! "Captain America" (David Wright) is out for the rest of the WBC... and maybe the start of the season... with back problems, so if USA advances to SF, Chase Headley from the Padres will take his place. This is the first game of the tourney that the USA has played with the "roof open". PU is Mark Wegner (mic'd up), Angel Hernandez is U1, with Edgar Estivision at U2, and Paul Hyham is U3. Smaller crowd tonight, but it's still arriving with a lot of walk-ups. Winner tonight gets the Dominicans tomorrow in a seeding game.

First pitch in a few minutes... R.A Dickey vs Sameul Deduno Roof is closed, crowd is amped, 2 dozen+ MLB All-Stars on both teams. Winner gets their ticket punched to SF... Loser has to play PR for the other ticket. The two survivors then play for seeding. PU - Angel Hernandez; U1 - Kasumi Manabe; U2 - Marvin Hudson; U3 - Edgar Estivision Looking forward to a great game...

For the regular M-F work week, I can go for no more than 4 nights. 3 games in one night if it's youth with a time limit, and DH's for HS. On weekends, I try to limit myself to no more than 4 per day, 5 if if they're desperate. It's all about how I feel the NEXT day... I have a very important "real job" that doesn't need me draggin' my saggy butt around the building. Whether it's during the school year or during the summer when I do nothing but umpire, I try to pace myself. As I get more gray hairs, wisdom wins. Three decades in blue and at least two left (I hope)? Yeah, I gotta be wise. I get a call for 4 on Sunday.. after 5 on a Saturday... after 16 the previous week... with a 14 more starting Monday... um, no... OK, well, maybe. I'm just now getting into travelling more, but as I do, I'll still going to do my best to stay wise, and get wiser.

What Jocko said. Beforehand, PU should signal BU that this will be the rotation, and before that, probably discussed in pre-game.

Ooops! I'd fix it, but I'll leave it there as an example to all of: "Read, THEN click 'post'". Sheesh...

USA vs DOM on Thursday. As many guys from both teams that know and play with each other, even though it's not a "win or go home" game, it should be one of the best games of the tournament.
