  1. CP-wise, I had to go with a cheap... um, inexpensive... hard shell, so I got the Champion Body Armor P-2 15". I REALLY needed the extra length, and I had a budget. At $55, it matched both. Next spring, it's a West Vest or something similar and even harder. I've had one before (stolen) and I really liked it. It took some monster shots from some hardball pitchers and I hardly felt a thing, but it can get a little scratched up. It doesn't quite cover the collarbone until I get in my crouch, then it seems to ride up just a little and covers everything. If I had the extra $100 to spare... Shoes: Plate- Reebok Zig Magistrate (Low cut & all black); Bases: NB all black, just regular, and price was a factor... this time. Clicker-wise, I made sure to get a "balls first" (balls, THEN strikes side by side, up top.). The rest is just normal stuff, though they do seem be out of long-sleeve shirts in a size that won't make me look silly. Does saying I got the "Mongo sized" Nutty-Buddy count for anything?
  2. At 1:00 today, I ordered some new equipment from http://ump-attire.com ... CP, two pairs of shoes, shirts, bags, hats, etc.... At 2:45 I got the UPS shipping confirmation. Since the total was over $300, shipping was free and the invoice said it would take 5-6 days. Wrong. It'll all be here Friday (2 days)!
  3. Thanks Jax!!
  4. ------------------------ Not much beyond what's already been posted. It looks like it's been officially approved for OBR 2013, but not yet published, and there's been no real "press release" either.
  5. Started drums in 2nd grade... actually I was three when I discovered where Mom kept the pots and spoons... Specialized in symphonic percussion and jazz/blues, and I've played in a couple of Rock (and one Disco) band. I still play for some community and church stuff, as well as sit in with some local Blues friends when I can. Amazingly, from pots to drums to bringing home my marching gear, my parents never told me to "knock it off!" The trade-off was piano lessons, so yeah I did that, too.
  6. We get to umpire baseball!! What an honor, privilege, and honor that is. Oh yeah... don't suck!
  7. I love books too, Jocko! But during the season and summer, I'm always losing one or the other... either my phone or the rule book! If I ever lose both I guess I can just
  8. ---------------- Mine looks just like Warren's pin on Google Chrome, but haven't tried my Droid yet. I won't touch Internet Explorer with a ten foot bat unless I'm totally forced to.
  9. So... if the illegal sub has to be discovered before the first pitch to the next batter, and that pitch occurs occurs, how can the penalty be enforced in this case play? Yeah, I need a little clarification too. Has to be something I'm missing here.
  10. Yeah, I saw that last night on the Indiana/Michigan game on a couple of three pointers when the shooter may have toed the line. On one, I think they waited until the media timeout, but late in the 2nd half, the stopped everything and reviewed it on the spot so that coaches/players would know the exact score and situation. While your thread will probably spark a rather lively "instant replay in baseball" thread (I'm for it in the current limited instances), I am definitely on the side of getting any call right whenever possible. In the NBA, I know they can review buzzer-beaters, flagrant fouls, and in last 2 minutes of overtime, they can review restricted area block/charge and goaltending. In International soccer, they're bringing in some sort of "goal/no goal" technology. Video is everywhere...
  11. Then maybe there will be some sort of "official announcement" for MLB, but I'd be reluctant to enforce it in my USSSA and City Leagues unless I have something in print. We'll see where it goes.
  12. In affect in MLB this year? 2013? ---------------------------- Looks like it. I still haven't seen an OBR 2013 in print or online yet. But if they're teaching the rule and interps at ump school... I guess (hope) we'll get more confirmation soon.
  13. Hand over heart... But once I was working at a complex that has soccer field adjacent to it and they were having match that day. It's about a two hundred+ yards away, but we can always hear the announcers and music over their speakers. When they did the Anthem, I noticed that all action had ceased on the diamond next to mine. I thought there had been an injury, but I found out later that the PU over there was a vet and he had stopped his game in the middle of an at bat and told everyone to stand.

Jocko! Amazing timing... Found and posted here on his birthday. HUGE Congrats on getting to be a part of this. Cant wait to see it!
  15. Now if we can just get that sarcasm font working... or just make it Comic Sans! Nice one JM!
  16. In FED, A strike is charged to the batter when a pitch is struck at and missed, even if the pitch touches the batter (7-2-1). In OBR, a strike is a legal pitch which touches the batter as he strikes at it (2.00). Both instances, dead ball strike. There are no exceptions or exemptions for where the ball must touch the batter. If a batter is leaning or ducking out the way of pitch and he is struck on the hand, it doesn't matter if that hand was holding the bat or not (or where the ball goes). It's an HBP. Thanks for running with this WildFlyer!!! I got burned with this one once back in my early days, but never again.
  17. Maybe it's similar to the Roman Army's "Strength and Honor" (Gladiator!), or Notre Dame's "Play Like A Champion, Today!", except with us it's "Don't Suck". Only 32?
  18. One step closer to seeing it in (OBR) black & white. Close Call Sports: Official: Popular Fake to 3rd Pickoff Move Now Illegal
  19. Yes. It's been approved, but it would indeed be wise to have the rule printed first before enforcing it. 2013 OBR should be out very soon. MLB Spring Training games start on/around Feb. 22nd, so it will have to be in print and online way before then,
  20. --------- I concur. Batter and catcher are like, "Really?"
  21. Detroit Rock City! Welcome to U-E!
  22. Thanks for the update. Interested to see the exact wording. ---------------------------------- Thanks Becker! I'm curious about the wording as well. I'm sure they'll keep it simple...

    Newbie

Welcome to the Empire! And Congrats on the great score!!
  24. ----------------------------- Or the worst curveball... ever. Under baserunning awards, each runner is awarded one base for a balk or if a runner is struck by a pitch.
  25. #3 is the one that concerns me, so I'll answer your question. If I HEAR or see my partner giving the incorrect number of outs, I'm going to correct him. I'll start with subtly signalling the correct number hoping that he sees it... then move on to being not so subtle... If I have to, I'll call time and wave him over for a quick conference and tell him "I only have one out, how many do you have?" Prevent a situation like this from even starting whenever possible. 1. Yes 2. No
