  1. You're right. I'm working out of OBR for this thread. You're also right that NFHS is the rule set that give the PU some discretion by rule. If a coach is being that big of an ass to my partner...I'm going to ask him to knock it off one time. If I judge his behavior to be ass-worthy again...I'm simply going to eject him.
  2. Yep, I'm aware that this thread is six years old. BUT...would failure to ask, when asked to ask...be grounds for a protest? It would indeed be a misapplication of the rules. A smart crew would/could simply ask at the point of protest and it would invalidate the protest...correct? Assuming of course that protests are permitted.
  3. There's no difference. People like to overthink stuff...or show you how much they think they know after leaving a clinic or what they heard from a "big dog" who heard from a "big dog" But...do what your boss wants you to do if that's who will determine whether or not you reach your goals as an umpire.
  4. I only read "10U"...yep...it was justified.
  5. Many years ago there was a video making its way around the Internet of a play...I think maybe involved Phili and or New York...where the batter-runner missed first base, the first baseman literally stomps on first base...indicating an unmistakable appeal...umpire (maybe Hernandez) does not call him out on appeal...until F3 vacates 1B and tags the batter-runner out. The BOS/TOR play today made me think of it...but I can not find the video. If you have it...or know the details of the play...please post it. Thanks.
  6. The text changed for MiLB in 2016 and MLB in 2017 with respect to the mechanics 2016 MiLBUM: Play 13, page 57, 58 2017 MLBUM: Play 12, page 21 (Section 2)
  7. You're probably right...I have a stack of manuals out right now...per my earlier post...so I was probably looking at the wrong one. :-)
  8. 2019 MiLB Manual: No signal, page 46 2019 MLBUM Manual: No signal 2018 MLBUM: Same as 2019 2017 MLBUM: Same as 2018, 2019 2016 MLBUM: Play: Batter-Runner hits a ground ball and beats the play at first base but misses the base. Ruling: The proper mechanic is for the umpire to call the runner safe, indicating he beat the play. If the defense appeals by tagging the runner (or base) and appealing that the runner missed first base before the runner returns to first base, the batter-runner would be declared out. Old Mechanic: MLBUM: 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016 Related Play:
  9. 2019 MLBUM Manual States the following: Play: Batter-Runner hits a ground ball and beats the play at first base but misses the base. Ruling: The proper mechanic is for the umpire to make no call on the play because the batter-runner has not yet touched first base. If the defense appeals by tagging the runner (or base) and appealing that the runner missed first base before the runner returns to first base, the batter-runner would be declared out.
  10. I thought they changed the mechanic to signal safe...but maybe it was the other way around? I can't remember anything anymore! HA! I looked in the 2021 MiLB manual and can't find it...will keep looking...here's the mechanic from 2014:
  11. We'd need a legal & properly executed appeal. This appeal was not unmistakable...the touch of first base was inadvertent by the first baseman.
  12. @JimurrayInning? Pitch number? I can pull the clip.
  13. Yep...that's the image I wanted to see. Thanks.
  14. Also are the pads, OEM Nike pads? I don't care either way...just curious.
  15. Can you please post a photo of the front of the mask but from over the top looking down? Are these being sold as brand new or used? Thanks.
  16. I know about the CCA and all of the other mechanics manuals out there. If any of you have a "Cliff Notes" three umpire powerpoint or handout that you'd be willing to share please send it to me via PM. A person I know asked for the "short version" of three umpire mechanics. So...without debating the rights or wrongs of that please send it my way.
  17. To the best of my knowledge, we should kill it immediately if we have it.
  18. A bluff and a throw to 3B would be a balk under OBR.
