Guys-let's get back to the issue at hand. You, as the umpire, get to place runners anywhere you want to nullify the OBS. So just use those terms. Coach, in my judgment, R1 would not have acquired 3rd had the obstruction on R2 not occurred. His award was would have been 2nd base. He proceeded to 3rd at his own peril, and was liable to be put out, which he was. I understand you feel differently, but in this insance we are just going to have to disagree. He asks you to get help: No problem, I'll be glad to check with my partner(s) to see if they saw anything different. Why don't you go on back to the dugout, we'll get together, and see what the census is.

Wow-very rare event and what a way to end a game! While unfortunate, by rule all that was said above is correct. He balked-run scores-game over. They "err"-ed during an appeal attempt and therefore lost their right to appeal again. But in the end, that doesn't even matter since the err was a balk, scoring the willing run and ending the game. To an umpire-that is pretty cool!

List of face masks worn by active MLB Umpires as of 6/21/2012
AZump78 replied to Fittske24's topic in Umpire Equipment
I am by no means an expert on this, but a few things off the top of my head: Beal got let go two years ago. Tumoane also has and wears a Nike mask fairly often. Laz still wears those ugly tan All star pads (sorry Brad!) even though he switched from a all-star Ti to a Nike Ti this year. Along Hickmans comments, I think powder coating the Ti masks is the next logical wave you tweaks you will see. -

Nice work Fittske. Of note: Hunter wears a Mizuno spider throat guard with his Wilson Ti -
I will give you that, but be careful about saying a home run HAS to leave the field in flight, as that is not totally true (see the second half of 7.05a)
-
Well I guess we will soon see your "career ejections" stat climb. Have fun and stay cool. Its a jungle out there!
-
The definition of a "home run" should suffice for this ruling.

There was no interference on the play presented but if there was you would only get the one out. Hmmmmm...So if he interferes with the intent of preventing a double play you only get one out??!?

Interesting. I had always thought that was a two stroke penalty...

JK- I think you have found the bag to own! Dissatisfied with the usual umpire-specific bags, I decided to get a MotherLode at the reccomendation of an umpire friend (and often times mentor). The only endorsement I could add about the eBag MotherLode is this: You could not PAY ME to ever switch to another bag. It is a little more expensive, but it is worth it. Also it is nice that it is 29" which does not make it an "oversized" bag for airline checking purposes. My wife insists we use it whenever we travel as well. She and the baby get the eBag and I am left to fend for myself! Also, it has a LIFETIME warranty, meaning it is literally the last bag you will ever have to buy. If you are a JE disiple and therefore use the Force or want the bag with the W and MLB logo on it, have at it. As for me, I'll take the eBag all day long. It is funny now I show up to a game rolling it in the locker room, get asked about it, show it off, and the next time I work with the guy he has one! Just my .02. YMMV

If in the budget, I'd recommend going one step further and springing for the Pro Combat Hypercool version. Much more breathable... http://shop.mobileweb.ebay.com/searchresults;PdsSession=7fe4bd251370a0276c51fa31fffeb157?kw=Pro+combat+hypercool+shirt+black&x=0&y=0&cmd=SKW

You know what I LOVED about this video? You can clearly see Bellino and Layne ALL OVER the balk call after Hunter made the intial call. They ECHOED the call. I hardly ever, ever see this on games I watch or work. It makes all the difference in the world when we are ALL calling it, even if the non-calling umpire didnt see it. Just ECHO it! It shows you have your partner's back and will go a long way towards convinving the manager that there was indeed a balk, minimizing the chance for argument or problems down the road.

Umpire Davidson Disciplined - MLB.com
AZump78 replied to Umpire-Empire Reporter's topic in Umpire News From Around the Web
I disagree in part. As I identified in the other thread, I'm not a Davidson fan, but I don't take a lot of issue with what he did here. You have to realize, the Phillies dugout would not have been cordial to Bob when they told him to get out of the way. It probably would have been something like "get the f- out of the way" or "move your as* Bob". In my experience with upper level ball, probably more the first one. IMO, BD has every right to put his head in the dugout at this point. I know I would. That ball is going to the backstop with or without him in the way. If he truly did screw F2 out of a play, then you have to eat it. But for him to take sniper fire over F2's screw up is ridiculous. Bob's trouble stems from the response. Obviously we can hear what he says, and it is not exactly PG. My response would have been "What, you think I meant to get in the way?" And leave it at that. We can't really hear Charlie's response that causes the ejection, but I'll never understand why some are so hard on MLB guys for going toe to toe with a manager who come out with the sole purpose of embarrassing them in front of 40K-50K people. I'm cool with Bob sticking up for himself. But the way he does it just looks too aggressive - but that's just who he is and how he yells. You are cetrainly entitled to your opinon - but I think you pretty much made my point. It was handled poorly and should have been handled differently, regardles of what was said. By no means am I saying he should have ignored what was said, of course you would/should look over and/or say something back if they are riding you like a rented mule, but you cant to lose YOUR cool and/or throw gas on the situation. And that whole, "that's just who he is" stuff is a cop out. That doesn't make it okay, even if he is a major league umpire. And that is precisely the reason he was disclipled. -

Bob gets an extra unscheduled night off? How cruel of a punishment! In all seriousness, dont know what Manuel said to get the quick heave, but there was NO reason for Bob to jump in the dugout as quickly and loudly as he did in the first place. He created a SH*# show for no reason-something all our supervisors would suspend us for (or worse since we don't have a union protecting our job!) -

CSABO-I'll PM you and we can work a deal I'm sure. As far as buying from VL, the link above has some in depth reviews from Oakley "freaks" so you can read till your hearts desire from people that take lenses much more seriously than us umpires!

Seems about par for the course... :jerkit:

I have no connection. But I have done some research on some on aftermarket lens replacement and have found you can buy great polarized or non-polarized lenses from a company called Visionary Lenses. They have some nice colors (revo blue, silver ice are my two favorites) to choose from and you can usually get a new pair of lenses for $25 including shipping. Here's a review for Oakley wearers who might be in the market for replacement lenses for whatever reason: http://www.oakleyforum.com/oakley-sunglasses-discussion/2431-visionary-lenses-depth-review.html If you search eBay for: VL + Oakley + (your frame type) you will see lots of options.... Hope this helps John!

Bump! I am still looking around for some Flak Jackets, and figured I would throw it out on here again before resorting to eBay. Anyone interested in doing a swap with me? I have a perfectly good pair of Oakley Radars I could offer if someone has an old pair of Jackets they no longer need/want. Again lens condition not important, just as long as they are black frames. Lemme know! :hi5:

I'm rusty on FED I seem to recall a rule that in this case restricting him is your only option, for the reason cited above.

My local seemstress - Sonya - thinks the same about me. Basically that I am batsh*t crazy. You wearing that in here? You want pants extra long??? Yes, hold on let me get I'm my stance first so you can mark my pants. And my personal favorite: So you want the back of the hem to be shorter than the front??? "yes ma'am, that's exactly what I want"

Great work!
