  1. I dont think either B or C will give you a good look.. I do like B better as I'm on that side of the base, looking back into 2nd.
  2. he reached up with his right hand and tried to grab the SS...
  3. I will agree INT should have been called, he made an attempt to interfere witht he play.. the 2nd base umpire is Mike Collins.. a very good umpire...was the only guy in the US to work DI football, basketball, and baseball all at the same time.. that's hard work.
  4. Not true in NCAA, you can make contact on a pop up slide as long as you don't intentionally interfere.. NCAA rule 8- 4 Force-Play-Slide Rule SECTION 4. The intent of the force-play-slide rule is to ensure the safety of all players. This is a safety and an interference rule. Whether the defense could have completed the double play has no bearing on the applicability of this rule. This rule pertains to a force-play situation at any base, regardless of the number of outs. a. On any force play, the runner must slide on the ground before the base and in a direct line between the two bases. It is permissible for the slider’s momentum to carry him through the base in the baseline extended (see diagram). Exception—A runner need not slide directly into a base as long as the runner slides or runs in a direction away from the fielder to avoid making contact or altering the play of the fielder. Interference shall not be called. (1) “On the ground” means either a head-first slide or a slide with one leg and buttock on the ground before the base. (2) “Directly into a base” means the runner’s entire body (feet, legs, trunk and arms) must stay in a straight line between the bases. b. Contact with a fielder is legal and interference shall not be called if the runner makes a legal slide directly to the base and in the baseline extended (see diagram). A.R.—If contact occurs on top of the base as a result of a “pop-up” slide, this contact is legal. hope that helps..
  5. dude I am a Mariners fan.. you have no idea how much pain we have this year..LOL
  6. big leagues.. they can do that up there... I can not do that in College ball..

  12. yea very nonchalant...
  13. I'm a pointer on called strikes and a hammer on swinging strikes.. I never mix the two.. on a 3rd strike swinging I still use a hammer..I went to Jimmy's and they teach the hammer on all strikes swinging or not..But i never use a verbal either.. unless the batter does not know he is out.. " yea son, that was strike 3"...LOL
  14. I have the K20's and wear them for everything.. HS all the way to DI and independent ball.. yes those guy throw mid 90's..and yes I have been hit.. didnt feel a thing.. I like that they are light, I tried on the Wilson west vest shin guards, but they were so big and bulky..so i didn't buy them.. I will always wear my K20's..
  15. R2 and r3 you should be in "C" are you saying you can't see BR touch 1st from "C"?...LOL
  16. I have had a few different shirts..but like the Honigs the best.. I guess quality is more to me.. I wear mine alot and leave them rolled up ( old military style) and never have wrinkles.
  17. Like Joyce said he had a great angle, he just "kicked the SH*# out of it"
  18. thats cause he set up in foul ground.. stay fair I wish I could draw a diagram for you..Bu on the line, BR will turn toward foul, and F1 or F3 will stay in fair and peel a little toward 2nd..... Look I think I saw you signed up for the Mid America clinic right?.. i went tot he 3 man clinic last sep.. and during that clinic one of the instructors Joe Burelson who is a Supervisor to AAA umpires, showed us about 10 different looks at taking a play in fair/foul.. it really is amazing once you see it your self. Stay fair, quit being lazing and going foul is my point, who hives a rats a$$ if there is 3 other umpires, or the PU is gonna take the BR into 2nd on a over throw.
  19. what do you mean?
  20. Also there are not really teaching the 90* rule that much any more... they want you to get a good angle, but most of the time you can not get 90*
  21. If you stay in fair ground, the players will move around you, I think you get a good look at the play..in the video before, if runge stays fair he gets a good look, also what if the runner was called out, and the 1st baseman just missed the bag, you will not be able to see that.
  22. here we go again, another umpire taking a play in Foul territory when he could of stay fair, or maybe 1-2 steps foul.. an he missed the call... http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=9906603&query=%26game_pk%3D265125
  23. yea that could have worked too...LOL
  24. then you could have gone to him, and asked what he had.. if he said the pitcher didnt step off, you could have informed him that he did.. and if he punished the wrong guy, you could have told him..
