Saw this email today regarding Florida Officials: DATE: December 19, 2016 SUBJECT: Spring Sport Rules Test Due the current status of the FHSAA, not having an online system to register or take the test online, there will not be a required testing period as in years past for the Spring Sports. With that being said our office will be providing every association with a copy of their Muster Report from last year that will include last year’s test score data. The FHSAA will allow last year’s exam scores to be used for the upcoming season’s assignments. If you have a new or an official that does not have a test score from last year your association will need to evaluate that official and assign them appropriately. We have established committees to move the association forward in selecting our new official’s management software. We are currently looking at, and have entered discussions with several programs including but not limited to Schedule Star, LeagueMinder, Arbiter, MaxPreps, Planet High School, and RSchoolToday. If you have any experience with any of these, we would love to hear your feedback! The rule books has no way of knowing what a particular fields safety areas of concern are. It's your job as an Umpire to see that and do what you need to do.

Taunting is taunting! Why is there a minor and a major?

I don't think it is an issue. I don't ask about subs. I don't care. Just add them when told.

Can't cover every little thing at the plate meeting. Remember coaches are NOT listening to a word you say. Their minds are elsewhere. KEEP IT SIMPLE!

Just use common sense if it is indeed a danger to the kids then do the right thing.

A couple of years ago in a meaningless fall ball practice game I had my plate meeting. Pitcher starting warming up. I walked out into the stands and sat next to the parents. I yelled out "2 more catcher" Catcher threw it down. I still sat in the stands. People were just kinda looking at me. Then I said. You all have a much better view than I do from here so I'm going to try it. Everyone laughed. Then I went behind the plate. I think they got my point. Didn't hear a word the whole game.

I would say 98% of Umpires just buy cheap stuff to save money. IE. Walwart Cups Cheap padded CPs etc etc

Sometimes it is for safety purposes. They don't want a kid to go sliding and get hurt on the concrete so they want 2 feet in fair. I can see that.

I have one but I Umpire all over Florida and other places and I have yet to see someone else other than me wear one!

I personally hate the hooks. I hate the way they stick out on the shirts. Rather have the side clips. But saying all this my Gold is still my favorite!
