What are you guys using to keep you CP clean and odor free? I have been using Febreeze after each use but that is not getting rid of the odor source just covering it up. Thanks,Dale

If you don't mind me asking what CP do you have? It is simillar to the WV Plat.? Just wondering how the Clorox will translate, don't want to do anything to harm such a nice (read as expensive) piece of equipment.

I use Lysol regularly and then every once and a while I wipe it down with a damp cloth with Dial antibacterial handsoap. It works well for me.

I also have used the clorox wipes in the past with no problem. Some of them don't contain bleach.

I'm not a fan of Febreeze. As was said it only covers up the odor but doesn't kill the funk.

If it's been a warm (or hot) day, I will just spray down the pads and around the neck with my trusty water bottle/sprayer, and then wipe down with a clean towel. :crybaby2:

I've used Febreeze only a couple of times in the past 2 seasons with it - I certainly wouldn't use it EVERY time. :jerkit:

Ump Rube,

I have the Wilson Hard Shell Umpire Chest Protector A3217, which is a step below the Platinum CP.

Thanks guys for all of the tips. I used some antibacterial wipes last night and then sprayed with regular Lysol and let it air dry. That seemed to work really well.

I use the WV Plat and clean it several times during the season.

Remove the pads from the hard shell.

Spray the pads, both sides, liberally with a simple green solution [or simple orange] and don't worry about how much you use...rub the heck out of it with your hands or with a clean towel.

While the padding is air drying....clean the hard shell...lightly spray on the simple green/orange and wipe down both sides of it!

Follow that up with a spray down of Armor All or the Turtle Wax version...and wipe it down!

Spray and wipe with the Armor All [or like] from time to time...as well as your leg guards....helps allow the shirt and pants to "glide right on by"!

I really need to clean my gear but probably wont happen till the fall or winter (or after the move which ever comes first) but the tips are great and I imagine are transferable to the Gold.
