dumbdumb Posted August 2, 2025 Report Posted August 2, 2025 1-by the MLB rule and interpretations 2-by NCAA rule and interpretations 3-former/present umpires that were catchers and well known for their hitting exploits please respond 4-former/present umpires that were pitchers and well known for both their pitching exploits and pitching and hitting exploits please respond. and remember, no matter how great the words-smiths and linguistics and lawyer umpires on this sight could write up a perfectly definitive rule, at some point, no matter the definitive definition, there is an inflection point in every call made that, you just have to umpire. and the umpire did not did not eject a first time to the rodeo player by a long shot. https://www.espn.com/watch/player?id=45882802 Quote

SeeingEyeDog Posted August 2, 2025 Report Posted August 2, 2025 9.01(c) Bryce Harper is an epic douchebag. It's always a swing on that mope. And on the call I would say (referencing his recent gross disrespect of Commissioner Manfred), "Bryce, if your check swing is what you want to talk about...then get the eff off of MY field. You're done for today. Hopefully, you'll make better choices for yourself next time." This is what I don't understand about today's ballplayers...Yogi won 10 rings as a player and 3 more as a manager and by all accounts was a class act who occasionally had an unkind word. He understood the assignment. Harper has done nothing in this game. Zero rings. And he sees fit to act 100 times the hump Yogi ever was. And the world still has another 6-8 years of Harp. Clown behavior, bro... ~Dawg Quote
Biscuit Posted August 2, 2025 Report Posted August 2, 2025 That's a swing. Close? Yeah, but I've seen much closer. From a former catcher who was, uh, not known for his bat. 1 Quote

grayhawk Posted August 9, 2025 Report Posted August 9, 2025 I was working the Area Code games yesterday and one of the coaches is a scout for the Nationals that covers Vegas. He scouted Harper and said he has known him since Harper was in 7th grade. I asked him what he is really like and he said he's just ultra competitive and wants to win more than anyone he had ever scouted. Just a very intense guy and when he argues with umpires, it's more about just needing someone to target for needing to blow off the steam. I still think he's a massive douche, but that's from someone that knows him. 1 Quote

For most of his childhood, even when playing against older players he was a tough out and his teams frequently won. If that's your experience in your formative years, then it's understandable when you reach the highest levels and are now facing your equals and you're experiencing far more personal and team failures, that could be difficult to accept. But, he's 32 and has been playing 13 years now at the MLB level. He needs to grow up. It's also weird to me that being a Latter Day Saint has not had more positive impact on his overall vibe and life approach. For a comp...Ichiro played 18 seasons, 2,653 MLB games and had ONE ejection. He was "intense" and "wanted to win" too. Some guys "get better". Some guys "figure it out". ~Dawg 2 Quote

I can't speak for any other part of his life, but at least on the ball field, he doesn't exhibit what is being taught. And that's the only part of his life that I and basically everyone else sees. 2 Quote
