After an umpire's ejection, Sioux City manager Steve Montgomery picked up first base out of the ground and took it within him into the stands, just days after West Michigan skipper Brayan Peña hopped over an outfield wall and into the stands after being ejected during a Minor League game.

During Sunday's Sioux City Explorers vs Lincoln Saltdogs game in the American Association, Explorers manager Steve Montgomery argued a play at first base, earning an ejection from 1B Umpire Roberto Pattison. After the ejection, Montgomery picked up first base and carried the bag to the left field corner, where a fan signed the base. Then, Montgomery walked into the stands in left-center field and gave the base to a child, before walking off, presumably toward the clubhouse.

Unfortunately for the kid, Lincoln staff retrieved and returned the base to the field, although Lincoln did make sure to toss the kid a baseball for his base retention efforts.

Meanwhile, in Friday's Whitecaps-Captains MiLB (High A) game, HP Umpire Hobuoki Yasuta ejected Whitecaps manager Brayan Peña, who similarly ventured into the stands after getting run.

Let's hope neither league has a malice in the palace rule.

If only there was a way we could avoid giving them a platform...

Not much you can do about cell phone warriors, but all/most of these manager ejection antics are part of television broadcasts...and the cameras keep rolling.  That's a choice.

The networks made a decision years ago to stop filming streakers, who were often paid by a casino or some other organization to run on the field with their logo painted on them.  And now it just doesn't matter if they're streaking or not, if they're advertising or not - nobody's gonna get their 15 minutes of fame by running onto a field in a live broadcast because the cameras will all cut away (or at least they don't broadcast it...I hope someone's recording it for evidence)

They should treat these the same way.  The home viewer doesn't need to see this.  Kids don't need to see this.  Rec level daddy coaches don't need to see this.   It's the equivalent of "Ow! My Balls" as a nationally televised syndicated TV show.

The first manager is just being childish. The second should never manage again. That is just uncalled for. No umpire needs to put up with that. If I had someone screaming in my face like that I would fear for my safety.

It wasn't the screaming so much for me as it was the flexing.  Hoping he got a good, long suspension.

I have gotten better about giving a coach room to blow off some steam, but I do not tolerate the physicality when a coach comes out.

Once the physical posturing starts, it's often not long until physical contact begins. When it does, then safety becomes paramount even if it includes involving the local LEO to assure it.
