I mean, I guess he sticks his arm out a bit but when you're on your toes with a guy throwing 95 it's tough to just go backwards in a split second as well.  I like 'finding the pitch' calls more when it is clear the batter made an easily avoidable movement to create a HBP.  Look at where the batter's elbow is pre-pitch and where the elbow is when it's hit...it's in the same spot.  Could he have tucked it?  Probably, but again, don't throw it at his elbow if you don't want a HBP.  Pitcher shouldn't be rewarded for this IMO.

Take the elbow armor away. What would the batter had done if he knew he was going to get hit in the elbow by a 95mph fastball? 100% he would have done anything other than what he did with the armor.

If anyone has ever been hit in the elbow with a pitch at any velocity...you go out of your way to not have that happen again.

This is almost impossible to get in real time. But it's pretty clear after video review.

Or, if a player thinks he needs to wear elbow armor, put him on the disabled list.

Spoken like a person who's never played the game at any meaningful level.

Come back when you've taken one on the elbow of your throwing arm.

Which is hidden downside of throw right / bat left (or switch-hitters).

Are there any bony protrusions on your body you leave exposed as an umpire?
