Interference Penalty

R2 interferes with F6 trying to catch a fair fly ball.

‘What is the penalty if, #1—ball is caught.

#2 Ball is not caught.

Is the penalty the same if runner interferes with infielder trying to catch a foul ball?

Lastly—does the same rule apply in NFHS?

Situation 1: Does not matter. The play ends at the moment of INT...R2 is out. If this had been an IFF, so would BR (on the IFF.)

Situation 2: I'd pay money to see R2 interfere with F6 on a foul fly ball.

‘if not an IF and not intentional do we place the batter on first base?

Also, I meant if F3 interferes with the 3rd baseman trying to catch a foul pop up.

Yes. It's no different than R2 interfering with a ground ball.

On a foul fly, the runner is out and the batter resumes the PA with an additional strike (unless there were two to start, then it's still two, as the ball was foul.)

The following is from the 2018 MiLBUM (p. 86)--

Runner Interferes on an Infield Fly Rule 6.01(a)(10)

Note 1: …Understand, when a runner interferes with a fielder on a fly ball (infield fly or not), the umpire must wait until the fair/foul status is determined before calling “time.”

Note 2: If runner interference is called on a fly ball and it is not an infield fly situation, the ball remains alive until it is determined whether the ball is fair or foul. If fair, the runner who interfered is declared out and the batter is awarded first base even if the ball is caught (unless determined that the interference was intentional for the purpose of breaking up a double play). If foul, even if caught, the runner is out, the batter returns to bat (unless determined that the interference was intentional for the purpose of breaking up a double play) and the pitch counts.

In FED, you CAN get two outs on the fair fly, if the contact happened far enough from the base that it's likely that the fielder could catch the ball and then get the runner out on appeal.

I knew about the infield fly rule ( both batter and runner are out if fair} but did not notice the follow up notes in MLBUM
