First One this season

My HS season is over. They are now in districts and Regionals and I don't qualify to work those games because its my first year doing school ball.

So now I am doing Rec ball, Travel ball, etc.

Had a 13U Travel game yesterday. I am BU. Kid slides hard into 2nd with no play being made. F4 moves out of the way on time. No contact made. I heard the Runner tell F4 that next time he would spike him if he didn't move.

I call time and tell him that I will not allow any more talk like that then he starts mouthing off. I tell him "enough" he says something else. I tell his coach to control his player. The coach just nods and the runner says something else. :wave: Adios Amigo!

I probably let it go too long but I really didn't want to toss him.

You gave him every opportunity 2 walk away. i dont think it got 2 far. you told him that you werent tolewrating that talk and gave the coach an opportunity to do his job...he didnt so he fair game.

In summer ball my tolerance goes wwwaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy down for stuff like that. I might have dumped him just because of the "threat" he gave to F4 and if I didn't do it then I would have done it, if after I gave him the warning and didn't shut up...especially in a U13 game... I would have let his coach deal with the aftermath and IF... I let him still stay after round 2 and he still had something to say (you are very generous) there would have been absolutely no question he would have been gone. This kid is 13 why would you let him get away with that....?

That's enough should have been at the mouthing off. Leave the coach out of it, anything he says after he tell enough, gone! Don't tolerate crap from kids.

Do you know what that something else was? If not its hard to eject for it at least at levels above age 13.

No I don't know what the something else was. And to me it didn't matter he had been told that's enough. They need to learn when an Umpire says Enough to shut up. :meditation:

Maybe it was "okay, I'm sorry".

Id get blasted if I had an ejection report like the one you had, but I recognize that you need to do whats right for that rec league you work.

So if your report said a kid threatened to spike another kid then mouthed off to you. You would have been blasted?

Maybe it was "okay, I'm sorry".

Id get blasted if I had an ejection report like the one you had, but I recognize that you need to do whats right for that rec league you work.

Seems like if you are going to EJ someone for continuing to talk after you tell them to stop, you would document what they said to get tossed. That eliminates the coach /player coming back and getting the EJ/suspension overturned because they say the kid was trying to apologize.

This is also a Sunday travel ball where there is not documentation. They don't have to answer to anyone for an ejection. If you don't put a stop to it they will abuse you.

Jax, I write incident reports as part of my "regular" job. I can tell you the first two rules of writing incident reports:

1. If it's not in the report, it didn't happen

2. It it's in the report, it better have happened

If you're going to eject someone for something he said, it's best you put what he said in the report. It's not going to hurt your case, and can only hurt his.

I understand that completely but like I said there are no reports in this Travel League

<br /><br /><br />I wouldn't say that it is giving benefit of the doubt, just covering your butt if the EJ's get documented (which you left out of your OP that they do not in this league) to minimize issues later. I never said the EJ was not justified, just that when you EJ good documentation (if required) is a must.

(I'm BU btw) .....safe at 2nd, no brainer, ...throw was high, F6 comes down off balance makes the late tag and falls into the runner, ........the runner , while on the bag ...starts shoving F6 and F6 shoves back?!?! While the ball is still in F6's mitt, ... I chime in with " HEY ...KNOCK IT OFF ..BOTH OF YOU! CALM DOWN!" They both looked at me as if to say.....WHAT THE ...??? There was a little grumbling from F6 ...something like...'he shoved me' ....and R1 says back, 'well you fell on me' (nothing directed at me ...) but I said again,... HEY! Let's play ....

Funny thing was ... in between the next innings as each of the players involved passed me, ...they both apologized!!

In the OP, I still contend it was a good toss, just late. I would have never asked his coach to control him. Once I tell him "That's enough!" and he still wants to yak then he's done, period. To me, asking the coach looks like you can't handle the 13 yr old so you are asking the coach. Instead, just handle it, the rest of the little darlings will figure out that you are serious. It's like telling the teacher about the bully, it does little good and you gain no respect. You tell him you have had enough then you have to pop him in the mouth. All the other kids will remember you don't back down.

In Thunderhead's play, I think he handled it well. He shut it down without having to lose anybody, but I'm sure if they listen they would have left. Nice job.
