Crash into outfield wall

NFHS rules, but other sets are fine too  

batter hit ball deep to CF, gap, F8 gloves the ball, crashes into wall and falls. Ball pops out, touches nothing, and lands/lays on fielders chest.  F9 grabs ball off F8’s chest.

Yes.  Assuming this is on the fly , the Ball never touched the ground. When F9 picks the ball up, control has been established and (another assumption) when they threw the ball in, established voluntary and intentional release.

 

HOWEVER, let's take it one step further.  Runner(s) are released (tag up) from the first touch of the fly ball.

The ball never touched anything other than a fielder. (A fly ball that hits the fence or foul pole, for instance, cannot be caught for an out.)

Otherwise, I agree. Same ruling all codes.

From OBR (and it's more clear if you read the entire definition of Catch on In Flight) (emphasis added):

 

A catch is legal if the ball is finally held by
any fielder, even though juggled, or held by another fielder
before it touches the ground.

thanks, this is what I was thinking.  I know if he crashes, glove falls off, but ball stays in glove on ground it is not a catch.  I also remember seeing wording somewhere in one of the rule sets that a player could remove it from another and it is the "voluntary release"

I think the word voluntary release wording (at least in OBR) has more to do with the transition between when it is caught and when it is  thrown.   The wording is actually "voluntary and intentional."     Prior bobbling between the defensive players are just permitted lead ups to the the actual catch when the ball is definitely possessed.
