I just ordered some shirts from Honig's, and it looks like they have decided to pinch pennies. I have always found that their quality is pretty good, and although I would rather go without logos, the embroidered Honigs script below the back collar was at least tastefully done.

Well, now they have done away with that. They have decided to ditch the embroidery, and are now placing hideous looking patches below the collar in the back, with the Honigs name on them. They also do not have the "locker tag," which is the little half circle of double material sewn into the same area below the collar in the back. I placed a call into them, and found they are trying to save some money by going that route. So much for paying a little more to get a decent shirt from a supplier that will also sew numbers onto the sleeves for you.

Out came the seam puller as soon as the shirts arrived. Some still had the embroidery, but a couple had the patch. I told the guy at Honigs that if they wanted to save money, they're better off not putting anything at all on the back, rather than the tacky looking patch.

I wonder what's next, the poly-wools that become a lot more "poly" than "wool?"

I get tired of suppliers trying to cut corners, it only hurts them, and hurts the consumer. Hopefully, they will come to their senses and reverse this trend. In the meantime, I think I will study the shirt review a little closer, and hope that Jim Kirk gets a lot more surveys like mine, which stated the biggest reason I get stuff from a supplier other than his, is the covenience of having my shirts and pullovers arrive with the numbers already sewn on. Then I can go to Jim for all of my needs, and not just gear.

Anyone else have any thoughts or stories on this subject, such as other umpire suppliers skimping on their product? I'm interested to hear, because if they were smart, they would realize that we want quality, and are willing to pay for it, much more so than joe six pack consumer.

I still have a pair of +POS plate pants that I bought 6-7 years ago. They still look great (as well as plate pants can!). They haven't faded one bit, they still have the original crease and re-crease very easily and all threads still strong.

I have 3 +POS ball bags in good shape with no fading on the true navy colored one.

Can't say the same for a +POS pullover though. Had to have the shoulder areas resown twice where they ripped at a seam.

Sorry to hear about the Honigs shirt issue........for the college set Honigs has been the shirt of choice in my experience.....we paid a lot more for that honigs script on the collar....but that was what was required....

as to ball bags.... I lost my +POS black ball bags last year and I could kick myself.....I imagine I left them on tip of the car and drove off.....I replaced them with Honigs and they are fine, but I always favored the +POS ones.....

I keep searching ebay and hoping Dan Parsons will liquidate some.......

This site does not look very legit. No Phone number or way to contact seller. Its Paypal only. Buyer be ware.

No sizes for pants and a paypal account email that has nothing to do with +POS?

If I remember the scuttlebutt, it is the warehouse manager that bought some of the stock when they closed. I don't know anything else about it but it should be a buyer beware area.

Whats strange is that on umpire.org forum there is a post from Dan Parsons saying they are back up and running... of course it could not actually be mr. parsons... but then again.

As for Honigs shirts, I have decided that the ones I now own will be last ones. All my shirts from now on will be the Ultimate shirts from Ump-Attire. Man I hope they dont do anything to the polywool pants. Best damn pants available.

I think our league is buying us the Honig's shirts. Hopefully it turns out well. Next time I buy it will be a Ultimate, hopefully they start coming in more styles.

I asked Jim this same question about two weeks ago and he told me they should have the rest of the colors by the beginning of next year. Here in SoCal a lot of the guys are going to the MLB blue with the black collar so I am dying having to use my honigs for one more season.

If they are buying you the shirts its not so bad since the money doesnt come out of your pocket. If it does, then do what you have to do.

Well, they only do that once every several years. I think it's been 3 years or so since last time they did that. So I bought my current shirt. In the future I hope to buy more. I might do a few middle school games next year so I would need a black and powder blue. Of course also would need one with and without LL and District patches and number.

Ump-Attire has the powder blue shirts as well as navy in the new ultimate umpire shirts. He said he should have black, MLB blue (with the black collar), cream and what ever other colors he wants to carry by sometime next year before the start of the season.

I was told by Frank over at Honigs East that they switched to a cheaper shirt company.. And it obviously hasn't worked out this year, so they're going back to their old producer next year.. Unfortunately, we probably won't see those new shirts until these cheap ones are all sold.. B)

yes but how long till they recover from their mistake. I for one have decided to move to Ump-Attire shirts despite how close the Honigs store is to me (15 miles away).

I have some Smitty shirts...they are really nice. My others are Dalco and I like them as well.

FYI, I saw an Official's Choice cream shirt in person the other day. YUCK!! Very "see through", the cream is not really cream, and the pinstripes on the sleeves and collar aren't even pinstripes...way too thick. Do not buy Official's Choice baseball shirts.
