We had a runner hit a clean single.  While waiting for the next batter to enter the box the runner was a few feet off the bag.  The pitcher threw the ball over and the first baseman tags him out.  Is this the correct call?  Is this not a dead ball situation?

Unless an umpire granted or called time, live ball, back to the dugout kid.

Might want to avoid the coach for an inning or two.

Did anyone request AND receive time? If not, why would it be a dead ball?

As described, in the absence of some goofy local rule (often found in rugrat baseball) about no pickoffs or something, I think you need to talk with your runner and first base coach. Cause daydreamer is out.

A better question to ask.
