R2 steals to third, batter takes a ball, F2 receives ball and attempts a throw to third.  Batter does not move.  My opinion, this does not constitute interference.  As long as the batter is not making an effort to block F2's throw, the batter is not obligated to get out of the way.  What say ye of the knowledge base.  Thanks.

As described — pitch taken for a ball, batter does not move in the box during the throw — this is not batter INT.

Indeed, if the batter does not swing and F2 makes a play immediately on R2 stealing, then the batter is liable for batter INT if he DOES move, as this could be "any other movement" (that is, other than a swing) prohibited by rule.

For this situation:

Not moving + hindrance = nothing

Moving + no hindrance = nothing

Moving + hindrance = batter INT

This part is correct.

This part is not correct.

The batter is entitled to a normal swing.  "Any other movement" (and there's a lot of judgment here) would / could / should be interference.

One thing, though -- the batter has every right to move within the box until the catcher receives the pitch.

It's when the catcher is throwing where he needs to know that the path he chose will not all-of-a-sudden have a batter in the way.

If that batter hinders the catcher in his attempt to get the runner then he is interfering.  The batter's box is not a sanctuary for the batter. He cannot interfere intentionally or unintentionally.
