I was doing a 10U competitive game on Friday as a favor to my assignor. First off, I forgot how small these kids were! It felt as though I was going to split in two I had to get so low. Between the two teams they only had 1 win for the season. Anyway, runner on second and the batter hits a real nice fly over the center fielders head. The runner from second rounds third (he touched) and comes home. I watch him touch the plate and I say in my head, 'he touched'. I turn my attention to the field and as I pick up the developing play at second, I hear this tapping on the plate. I look over and the runner from second is there and he is smacking his foot on the plate to ensure I saw he touched it. I couldn't help but begin chuckling and said, 'I got you on the 1st touch there buddy, but, thanks for the help.' He looked liked he was really trying to help me out and it made me laugh out loud after he turned, raised his hands in the air and ran to the bench like he just hit a walk-off. I truly love baseball.

No doubt some umpire in a prior game made some visual or verbal signal after every touch of the player, and this laddie inferred that doing so is customary. When you didn't, he figured you didn't see him touch.

The coach and I chuckled about it between innings and he said he was going to chat with his team about it post-game.  That he had put it on his list of items to follow up on with the boys.

I have had Dixie All-star umpires tell me that during our pre-games. I just shake my head and asked him if he did that for every other base too. He gave me the funniest look ever to which I concluded with ... Don't do that. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk

Dusty field last weekend. After a rather large and unnecessary slide by a previous runner (Come-on, you're 14 kid... ) the plate was covered by a good two inches of dirt. Next runner comes in distraught trying to step anywhere in the area. In this case I do give the point because I was giving it to him under circumstance. I tell him not to worry because, "there is no way I'm going to call you out for this". It ended up taking ME some hunting to eventually clean it off. I'm sure some fans of instant replay would support an out on this.........

What makes the OP funny to me is that you said it was a 10u competitive game and yet between the 2 teams, they had 1 win all season.  Ouch!
