Catcher substitute during inning

NFHS - due to injury it is necessary for the catcher to be replaced in the middle of an inning, the new catcher had been at 3rd base. After putting on the equipment is it permissible for the replacement catcher to take some warmup pitches from the pitcher before play resumes?

I'm not sure why a catcher would need warm-up "catches" (what exactly would that warm up, besides his mitt?). But any time there's an injury, I tend to allow the defense a moment to get themselves tog
