Catcher substitute during inning

NFHS - due to injury it is necessary for the catcher to be replaced in the middle of an inning, the new catcher had been at 3rd base.  After putting on the equipment is it permissible for the replacement catcher to take some warmup pitches from the pitcher before play resumes?

As a plate umpire, why would NOT allow on the only guy between you and the baseball to take a few pitches, if requested?

 

But, is it allowed? Well, it's not not allowed, so yeah, feel free.

OBR Rule 3.03 Comment ANY player other than a pitcher substituted for an injured player shall be allowed five warm up throws.  

Not certain the rule applies in this situation since the third baseman is not a sub but is merely switching positions but close enough for me.

Not covered -- but since this was a "delay" you can certainly give the pitcher a few warm up throws.

I'm not sure why a catcher would need warm-up "catches" (what exactly would that warm up, besides his mitt?). But any time there's an injury, I tend to allow the defense a moment to get themselves together.

We watch a few pitches at the beginning of the game - I am going to let the guy between me and the pitcher take a few to see what the pitcher is throwing.

There is no rule preventing it, or allowing it.  I think most umpires would allow it, unless of course their are "extenuating circumstances".
