Possibly because the umpire thought that the runner went out of his way to make contact and tried to bambozzle him into an obstruction call. Gutsy no call...I like it.

For once the announcers actually saw and discussed what I saw. That runner created that contact with that fielder. I have had it twice in my career. One was easy to call. One was tougher but my partner confirmed what I had.

Catcher in front of plate NOT blocking the plate, throw comes in and arrives just before runner. Runner stutter steps inside of foul line and bumps into (not malicious) catcher then slides.

Coach wanted OBS. NO Way! Runner created the contact coach. Not going to give you that one.

Two things...if you watch the replay at about and the 0:09 and again at the 0:54 second mark Hallion's left hand was moving up to point out the obstruction, which was then quickly changed to the ash out signal. So his first quick reaction was going to be obstruction...But then he changed his mind.  Reading Hallion's lips when he's discussing the play with Gibby..I believe I see,  "He went out of his way and ran into him"

What do you have in real time?

In real time, from that camera angle, I may very well have called it OBS.  But after looking at it, I agree with the call on the field.  Contact was not caused by any act of the fielder.

First of all -- aren't Hallion and West crew chiefs?  So why are they in the same crew?

Second - nice call by Hallion.

I think someone on that crew might have some immigration issues
