Fixing Umpire Errors

Had a pitch throw 3 pitches in a row that I balled.

I realized I made a mistake and should have been strikes. I placed the pitcher at a disadvantage.

So I fixed my error and called the batter out.

Did I do the right thing?

This stems from a FB argument where some are saying that umpires have to fix their errors when they put a team at a disadvantage.

So I came up with this scenario.

No. Fix it before the next pitch. You can change only the last one: the count is now 2-1. This is FED's general time frame for correcting errors: see the BOO, CO, illegal bat, and appeal rules. See also 10-2-3

 

Every umpire error might put a team at a disadvantage. There is no requirement to fix every error. The requirement is, IF you fix a (judgment) error, AND doing so puts a team at a disadvantage, then you may rectify the disadvantage. 10-2-3L

I think we should do this more often. 

 

"Time!  I've changed my mind, those last three pitches are now strikes and the batter is out.  Also, because this game is threatening to go extra innings I'm taking away a run from the VT."
